The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ tennis team took to the courts on Thursday, October 9, 2024, at Boulder City to compete for the regional championship. Following an intense victory in a tiebreaker the day before, the Trojans faced a formidable Boulder City team but gave it their all, showing incredible determination despite the quick turnaround.

Head Coach Michael Dela Rosa praised the team’s effort, noting the challenge of playing back-to-back matches. “The boys fought hard but looked exhausted after their exciting extra matches the night before,” Dela Rosa said. “We thought we were playing Friday, which would have given us a day to recover and practice, but we had to step back on the court Thursday, and it was tough.”

In singles play, James Dela Rosa, Milan Vasquez, and Sonny Skinner each earned one win, going 1-2 against some of the top competitors in the league. The doubles teams saw Lucas Johnson and Jace Eichner stand out with a solid 2-1 record, while Legend Reigns/CJ and Juan Rodriguez/Bryce Dykstra fought hard but finished 0-3.

Though the Trojans ultimately fell 5-13, their resilience and commitment to the game were evident throughout the competition. “We didn’t get the result we wanted, but I’m so proud of the heart and guts these boys showed on the court,” Coach Dela Rosa said. “They’ve had an incredible season, and we’re looking forward to making our mark at the state tournament.”

The Trojans may have missed the regional title, but their season is far from over. After making history by qualifying for state for the first time, they will now shift their focus to preparing for their debut in the state tournament. The future remains bright for this talented and determined team.
