The Pahrump Valley High School (PVHS) Hall of Fame proudly welcomed five new inductees at the Class of 2024 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held on Friday, October 4, at Mt. Falls. The evening featured a dinner provided by the PVHS Booster Club and the PVHS Athletic Department, bringing together the school community to honor individuals who have made lasting contributions to PVHS through athletic excellence, coaching, and volunteer service.
Bryce Odegard
A 2018 graduate, Bryce Odegard left a remarkable legacy in PVHS athletics, excelling in cross country, basketball, and track. Bryce’s crowning achievement came in 2016 when he became the state cross country champion. He continued to shine on the track, holding school records in the 800-meter, 1600-meter, and the 4×800-meter relay. In his senior year, Bryce dominated the state competition, winning titles in both the 800-meter and 1600-meter races. After PVHS, Bryce ran for the College of Idaho in cross country and track. Now living in South Carolina, he manages a running shoe store, using his business degree. He and his wife, Josie, are parents to a son, Brooks, and are expecting another child soon.
Kristi Daffer Shreeve
Kristi Daffer Shreeve, class of 2009, made her mark in volleyball, basketball, and softball. Earning varsity letters in all three sports as a freshman, Kristi was recognized statewide for her talent. She earned All-State honors in volleyball and basketball during her sophomore and junior years. In her senior year, she was selected to the 4A All-League basketball team and the conference all-star team. Known for her competitive spirit, Kristi received the coveted Fighter Award. After high school, she played volleyball at Southern Utah University (SUU) and continued her passion for sports by coaching volleyball for eight years. Now living in Nenana, Alaska, with her husband, Tallon, and their four children, she has added basketball coaching to her repertoire.
Joe Clayton
Joe Clayton’s impact on PVHS athletics extends beyond his role as a teacher and coach. Originally from Washington state, Joe joined the Nye County School District in 1998, starting at J.G. Johnson Elementary before moving to Rosemary Clarke Middle School (RCMS) and eventually coaching at PVHS. He is most known for founding the Pop Warner football program in Pahrump in 2004. Joe coached various sports, including football, basketball, and track. His leadership brought PVHS football to two league championships and a fourth-place state finish in 2018. Recognized as Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2021, Joe also contributed to the success of the state championship wrestling team. He and his wife, Holly, have been married for 27 years and have three boys and a daughter.
Sarah Hopkins
Sarah Hopkins, born and raised in Martin, South Dakota, moved to Pahrump in 1990 with her husband, Bob, and their five children. Sarah’s passion for education and athletics led her to volunteer tirelessly for PVHS. She has served in numerous roles over the years, including helping with the Junior Golf Program, keeping stats for boys and girls basketball teams, and running concession stands. Sarah’s dedication extended beyond volunteerism; she supported the community as an elementary education teacher with a specialization in early childhood special education, a career that spanned until her retirement in 2021. With 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Sarah’s family has deep roots in the PVHS community.
Trina Daffer
For over three decades, Trina Daffer has been a vital part of the PVHS family. Originally from Ashton, Idaho, Trina moved to Pahrump after marrying her husband, Marty, in 1987. Together, they raised seven children, all of whom graduated from PVHS. Trina started her teaching career at PVHS in 1990 and soon became an integral figure in the school’s athletic community, keeping stats for football, basketball, and volleyball. She also served as the junior and senior class advisor, helping to organize key events such as prom and graduation. In 2006, when PVHS Athletic Director Brian Hug envisioned a Hall of Fame, Trina stepped up to serve on the committee. Her dedication has helped make the Hall of Fame a cherished tradition at the school.
The 2024 Hall of Fame class exemplifies the spirit, dedication, and excellence that PVHS strives to foster in its students, athletes, and staff. Each inductee has left an indelible mark on the school, inspiring future generations to carry on the rich tradition of achievement at Pahrump Valley High School.
