The spirit of sharing and literacy is growing in Pahrump, thanks to Pahrump Mother’s Corner (PMC) and its founder, Mackayla Turley. The group recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the installation of its fifth Little Free Library—this one located at Dad’s American Diner—joining a network of small, book-filled boxes that invite readers of all ages to “take a book, leave a book.”

PMC now sponsors and maintains five Little Free Libraries around town, located at Our Place, Essential Evolution Massage and Bodywork, Death Valley Marketplace, a neighborhood site at 4080 Majestic View, and the newest addition at Dad’s American Diner. Each location offers a welcoming space for readers to exchange books and enjoy the simple pleasure of discovering a new story.
“We’re super excited to have something like this to provide to our community,” Melissa Blundo from Dad’s said during the opening. “From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., anyone can come by, grab a book, or bring one to share. It’s all about community connection.”
Dad’s American Diner is offering more than just the little free library. Families in need can also find small care bags containing essentials, coloring books, and snacks—another way the diner continues to support local residents. Leo Blundo with Dad’s extended a heartfelt thanks to Ed Bevilaqua and Vern Hee from the Knights of Columbus for their ongoing support in assisting families in need, helping ensure that those struggling still have access to comfort and care in the community.

Turley said she loves how the project encourages reading and community engagement. “I stock the one in my neighborhood with seasonal and holiday-specific books and crafts occasionally,” she said. “In the future, I’d love to see more Little Free Libraries pop up around the rural neighborhoods. I love the idea of kids all over town having one within walking distance. With the five we installed, the center of town has pretty good coverage.”
The Little Free Library initiative aligns with Turley’s larger vision for literacy in Pahrump. She hopes to partner with Friends of Discovery Park next year to create a “Book Walk,” combining outdoor activity with reading, and plans to hold a fundraiser to help bring that idea to life.
