The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ flag football team traveled to Sierra Vista High School on Friday, January 23, to face one of Nevada’s top-ranked programs in a matchup that also included a special pregame experience with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Before kickoff, the Lady Trojans were part of the Raiders’ showcase event, where the team was interviewed and presented with a donation from the Las Vegas Raiders organization. Head Coach Jeff Corbett said the opportunity was a meaningful moment for the program and the athletes.

“The Raiders had their showcase with Sierra Vista on Friday and we were a part of that. Sierra Vista is an impressive team, I believe they’re ranked 4th in the state. That being said, we had an experience being interviewed and received a substantial donation, which we’re grateful for. Overall, it was a good experience for the girls,” Corbett said.
Sierra Vista, recognized as one of the top teams in the state, established control early in the game. While detailed play-by-play information from the first half was limited, the Lady Trojans continued to compete and adjust against a highly experienced opponent, reaching halftime facing a significant deficit.

Pahrump Valley opened the second half with possession, looking to establish rhythm on offense. Jazmyn Herrera led the drive with a quarterback keeper to the left for a short gain, followed by a strong 30-yard run by A’shyra Fisher. Diona Nixon added a 15-yard run to move the chains and advance the ball to the 44-yard line.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Trojans again started with the ball. With 10:37 remaining, Herrera hauled in a reception of approximately 10 yards to pick up a first down. Sierra Vista later capitalized on turnovers and field position to extend its lead.

Pahrump Valley continued to compete through the final minutes, calling a timeout late in the game to get one more play on the field before the final whistle.
While the scoreboard favored Sierra Vista, the evening provided the Lady Trojans with the opportunity to compete against one of the state’s premier programs and to be recognized as part of a Las Vegas Raiders showcase—an experience that highlighted the continued growth and visibility of the PVHS girls’ flag football program.
