Albertson and Sons Sand and Gravel: A Family Business Built on Quality and Trust

Albertson and Sons Sand and Gravel has been a trusted name in Pahrump for years, offering quality materials and services to homeowners and businesses alike. This family-owned business, led by Brian Albertson and his son Jeremy, is known for its dedication to providing reliable, affordable solutions for a variety of gravel and rock needs. From driveways to landscaping projects, the Albertsons have built a reputation for hard work, precision, and a commitment to their community.

Brian Albertson, the owner and founder, began his journey in the construction world decades ago. A longtime Pahrump resident, Brian moved to the area in the early 1990s and started laying the groundwork for what would eventually become his full-time business. Starting with a modest fleet of trucks, Brian transitioned from working in construction and driving water trucks in Las Vegas to owning a gravel pit and establishing a name for himself in the gravel hauling industry.

Jeremy Albertson, who officially joined the business three years ago after attending college, recalls his father’s determination and entrepreneurial spirit. “He got obsessed with the idea of buying trucks from the company he worked for. Eventually, he owned all four of their trucks,” Jeremy shared. From there, Brian began hauling small loads in town, slowly building a reputation for dependability. In 2007, the Albertsons acquired their own gravel pit, which proved to be a game-changer. No longer needing to purchase materials from other suppliers, they could offer competitive prices while maintaining control over quality.

Today, Albertson and Sons Sand and Gravel, with their display yard located at 1001 S Firebird Cir, remains a family operation. While Jeremy’s brother, a skilled mechanic, recently moved to California, the business is still primarily run by Brian and Jeremy, with the occasional help of a part-time loader operator. Despite its small size, the company’s impact on the community is significant.

The business specializes in gray rock, offering a range of materials for driveways, leech fields, and even landscaping. While they don’t deal in colored rock, they’ve mastered the art of spreading gravel efficiently—a service that sets them apart from competitors. “Not many companies in town will spread gravel using their trucks because it’s hard on the equipment, but we do,” Jeremy explained. Using chains on the tailgate to control the spread, they ensure an even layer of material as they drive. Additionally, they use a tractor for more precise spreading when necessary.

The Albertsons operate from a property on the highway that doubles as a display yard. Piles of gravel are marked with signs to help customers choose the right material for their projects. While they don’t have staff stationed on-site, customers are encouraged to call for advice or quotes. “It’s a simple setup, but it works,” Jeremy said. Their most popular product is driveway gravel, known as Type 2, priced at $175 per load, including tax and delivery. Despite a modest price increase from $150 in the past year due to rising fuel costs, Jeremy believes they remain one of the most competitive options in the area.

Running a gravel business comes with challenges, and maintaining their fleet of trucks is one of the biggest. “It always seems like things break down when we’re busiest,” Jeremy noted, highlighting the feast-or-famine nature of the industry. Springtime is typically their busiest season as homeowners tackle yard projects, but the workload can fluctuate dramatically. This past year, however, they were unexpectedly busy through the holiday season, working late into December.

The Albertsons also take pride in supporting the community. From donating gravel to local animal rescues to sponsoring a budding street bike racing team started by Parker Mayer of Parker’s Downtown, they make an effort to give back whenever possible. “We just sponsored their first race two weekends ago,” Jeremy said with a smile, reflecting the family’s commitment to fostering local initiatives.

Despite their success, the Albertsons have no plans for expansion into colored materials or other ventures. “We stick to what we can make ourselves,” Jeremy explained, noting that importing materials like colored rock would drive up costs. They also source crushed rock and sand from a local supplier, Morales, maintaining a balance between self-sufficiency and collaboration.

Jeremy’s connection to Pahrump runs deep. Born in Las Vegas but raised in the area, he graduated from Pahrump Valley High School in 2018 and cherishes the community that has supported his family’s business. “It’s pretty simple—delivering rocks,” he said, humbly summing up the operation. But for the residents of Pahrump, Albertson and Sons Sand and Gravel is far more than that. It’s a reliable partner in home improvement, a supporter of local causes, and a testament to the value of hard work and family dedication.

As they look to the future, the Albertsons remain focused on what they do best: providing quality materials and personalized service to the community they love. Whether it’s a driveway in need of fresh gravel or a yard project requiring precision spreading, Albertson and Sons is there to meet the challenge, one load at a time.
