The PVHS tennis teams secured impressive victories against Sloan Canyon on Monday, September 9, with the boys’ team winning 10-2 and the girls’ team finishing 8-5. Due to transportation restraints for the opposing team, the matches ended early, with the scores standing as they were at the cutoff time.
The boys’ team saw strong performances, even with Milan Vasquez sitting out to recover from a prior injury. James Dela Rosa and Sonny Skinner dominated, winning both of their matches, while Jace Eichen/Lucas Johnson, Legend Reigns/Chris Jacks, and Juan Rodriguez/Mariano Ayala also claimed victories in both of their doubles matches. Although Bryce Dykstra fought courageously, he was unable to secure a win in his two matches.
On the girls’ side, Alexis Staples was unavailable, but Jemi Chavez and Abby Amador each managed to win one of their matches. The doubles teams of Chanel Anthony/Chloe Sitter-Jones, Layla Brunell/Cristiana Baang, and Milly Khandpur/Nyomi Skinner all emerged victorious in both of their matches. Meanwhile, new singles players Malynda Sheer, Ally Amador, and Isabella Harris faced tough challenges but gained valuable experience in their debut matches.
Head Coach Michael DelaRosa expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, stating, “The season is going as planned even with the challenges of certain players not being available to compete for us. Each hardworking player is focused on winning their matches to help the whole team win. We take each matchup one at a time to ultimately qualify for regionals and hopefully host home team playoff matches.”
The PVHS tennis teams are continuing to build momentum as they work toward their season goals, with a strong sense of camaraderie and determination pushing them forward.
