The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team delivered a strong showing on the road Tuesday, January 13, earning decisive victories over both Del Sol High School and Valley High School during a tri-dual at Valley High School. The Trojans controlled the night from start to finish, winning the varsity duals 69–12 over Del Sol and 60–18 over Valley, while also sweeping both JV matchups.
Head Coach Antonio Sandoval said the team entered the evening focused and confident after strong practices leading up to the event.
“I’m really excited to see how we perform,” Sandoval said before the final matchup. “There are some pretty solid kids on that Valley team, and the way we’ve been practicing, we should come out and wrestle pretty well.”

On the varsity side, Pahrump showcased depth and consistency across nearly every weight class. Seniors Timmy Stutzman (106), Ethan Rouse (113), Dominic Chiancone (126), Jayden Crisler (150), and Austin Alvarez (165) all went a perfect 2-0 on the night. Juniors Zach Hulderson (120), Bryce Whitney (157), Paul Walker (175), Iyan Bosket (215), and heavyweight Julio Ackerman also finished undefeated, while freshman Carlos Flores (132) impressed with a 2-0 performance. Jacob McLaughlin (138) split his matches at 1-1, and freshman Kain Johnson (144) gained valuable varsity experience.

The girls division added to the team’s overall success, with sophomore Sarah Penner going 1-1 at 125 pounds, continuing to build momentum, while freshman Patience Moore gained mat time against tough competition.

Sandoval noted that while the Del Sol dual did not unfold exactly as expected, the night was an important step forward as the team continues to regain full strength following illnesses over the break.
“A couple kids performed a little bit better than they thought they would after how they’d been feeling,” Sandoval said. “It’s good to see us coming back to full strength and just mastering the way we wrestle.”
The JV squad mirrored the varsity success, earning wins of 42–30 over Del Sol and 48–24 over Valley. Freshmen and underclassmen including Scott Rouse, Alex Rayas, Angel Mundo, Azael Machuca, Cameron Scheer, Cade Wulfenstein, Jayden McMaughn, Jon Lopez, Marlon Garcia, and Esteban Chavez all contributed to a well-rounded team effort.
With multiple undefeated performances, the Trojans continue to show steady growth, depth, and confidence as the season progresses, building momentum with each competition.
