On October 1, the PVHS Girls’ Soccer teams traveled to Moapa Valley to take on the Pirates, facing not only a tough opponent but also scorching temperatures, with game-time highs reaching 107 degrees. Despite the heat and some injuries, both the JV and Varsity teams showed resilience in their matches.
In the JV game, the heat took its toll early, leading to two goals for Moapa in the first half. However, the Trojans rallied in the second half, tightening their defense and holding off the Pirates from scoring again. Standout player Amaite provided strength in the middle, helping to prevent Moapa from making any more breakaway plays. “Our defense is starting to really come into their own,” said Head Coach Amy Carlson. “They made some great steals and did an excellent job stopping Moapa from extending their lead.” Unfortunately, the Trojans couldn’t find the back of the net, ending the game with a 2-0 loss, but the second-half performance showed promise.
The Varsity match was a hard-fought battle from the start. The teams were neck and neck throughout the first half, with the Trojans gaining momentum just before halftime. Natalia Vallin found a crucial opportunity to score, sending the Trojans into the break with a 1-0 lead. “The girls came into halftime exhausted but confident,” Carlson shared. “They knew they had the upper hand going into the second half.”
However, just five minutes into the second half, Moapa managed to tie the game 1-1. The remainder of the match saw both teams pushing hard, with the Trojans controlling possession for much of the second half. Valery Romero and Carlyn Cajabar Williams played critical roles in the midfield, while the defense stayed vigilant under Moapa’s pressure. Despite their efforts, the Trojans were unable to score again, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
“We’ve faced three tough matches back-to-back, which has led to some injuries, but the girls have stood their ground and never given up,” Carlson remarked. “They continue to grow after every game, and I’m proud of their determination.”
As the Trojans look forward to some much-needed recovery time, their grit and teamwork continue to be their strongest assets as they push through a challenging season.
