The Pahrump community is being called on to support Yvonne Percell, a beloved Hafen Elementary School teacher and mother to a Rosemary Clarke Middle School 7th grader, as she battles a newly diagnosed and aggressive form of cancer. Yvonne, who joined the Nye County School District this year and was preparing to teach 1st grade this fall, is now facing a far different journey—one that requires not only strength and resilience, but the help of a caring community rallying behind her.
She was recently diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a rare form of cancer that begins in the upper part of the throat behind the nose. After months of worsening symptoms and inconclusive medical results in Nevada, Yvonne traveled to USC Hospital in Los Angeles, where doctors were finally able to give her an accurate diagnosis and begin building a treatment plan.
Yvonne’s medical team is optimistic, but the road to recovery won’t be easy. She is scheduled to return to Los Angeles this July for a third trip, where she’ll remain for at least 6 to 8 weeks to undergo intensive daily treatments. While insurance will cover some of her care, there are still significant costs for temporary housing in Los Angeles, out-of-pocket medical expenses, and daily living needs while away from home.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help Yvonne and her family manage the financial burden so she can focus fully on healing. Community members are encouraged to contribute and share the fundraiser to help ensure that this beloved mother, teacher, and friend doesn’t have to face this journey alone.
“If you know Yvonne, you know she’s nothing short of a real-life Wonder Woman,” stated on her Go Fund Me page. “She’s always been there for others—now it’s our turn to be there for her.”

I met Yvonne when I accepted a teaching position in Vegas over a decade ago. It’s always a little nerve wracking to start a new postion, but she was so warm and welcoming, and I am proud that I get to call her one of my closest friends today. She truly loves this town and the people in it. It makes me so proud of our community to see you rally around her in this time. Please know that it doesn’t go unnoticed and that she is truly appreciative of your kindness and support. Thank you!
I love you Yvonne! Warrior beast mode!
