The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ tennis team returned to the court against Virgin Valley on Monday, Sept. 14, completing unfinished business from the teams’ first league meeting and earning a 38-26 victory in a series of tiebreaker matches.

The teams entered Monday’s competition tied after their earlier match in Virgin Valley. During that initial meeting, Pahrump’s top two singles players led the way, with Chanel Anthony and Aurora Bowers each winning all three of their sets.

The doubles team of Milly Khandpur and Nyomi Skinner added two victories in three sets, while Lily Gregory and Wendy Rodríguez Ortiz earned the crucial win that left the overall match tied. Pahrump’s newer players also competed with strong effort and sportsmanship as they continued gaining experience.

With the original match unresolved, Virgin Valley traveled to Pahrump to determine the winner before the boys’ competition began.

Anthony again delivered for the Trojans, winning her tiebreaker match 7-3. Bowers followed with a 7-2 victory, while Mia Alvarez competed in a 7-2 loss.

Pahrump’s doubles teams swept their tiebreaker matches. Khandpur and Skinner secured a 7-3 win, while Gregory and Rodríguez Ortiz prevailed in a closely contested 8-6 match. Sophia Mejia Jimenez and Kimberly Hernandez completed the victory with a 7-5 win, giving the Trojan girls the 38-26 overall advantage.

The Pahrump boys faced a challenging Virgin Valley lineup and finished the afternoon with a 13-5 loss, but several Trojans earned victories along the way.

Jace Eichner won one of his three singles matches, while Bryce Dykstra also collected one victory in three appearances. Brody Myers and Samson Wagner led Pahrump’s doubles effort by winning two of their three matches. Brothers Brendan Torres and Tristan Torres added another doubles victory for the Trojans.

Although the boys did not earn the team win, their five match victories provided positive moments and valuable league experience as the season continued.
