The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ soccer team struck first and kept the outcome within reach through the final minutes of its regional quarterfinal Monday, Oct. 26, at The Meadows. Avery Farruggia scored an early goal for the Lady Trojans, but two first-half goals by the Mustangs proved enough to give the home team a 2–1 victory and bring Pahrump’s season to a close.
After entering halftime down by one, the Lady Trojans held Meadows scoreless throughout the second half while continuing to seek an equalizer. Goalkeeper Jazmyn Herrera made several saves, and Pahrump generated chances from both sides of the field as the match remained close into stoppage time.
Herrera was involved from the opening minutes, coming forward to clear a ball and later gathering a bouncing Meadows shot. At the other end, Melissa Nunez-Ramirez sent a low shot toward goal as the Lady Trojans began establishing their own offensive opportunities.
Pahrump broke through with approximately 31 minutes remaining in the first half. Alexis Pryor advanced the ball upfield, and Farruggia finished the sequence with a shot from the left side to put the Lady Trojans ahead 1–0.

Farruggia continued working along the left side shortly afterward, drawing a foul as Pahrump looked to build on its lead. Herrera also came toward the front of her box to clear another Meadows advance.
The Mustangs tied the match with about 27 minutes left in the half, placing a shot inside the lower-left corner beyond Herrera’s diving attempt.
Pahrump continued creating opportunities after the equalizer. Nunez-Ramirez took a shot from the right side that went left of the goal, and the Lady Trojans earned a corner kick near the midway point of the half. A deep Meadows free kick later sailed over the goal, keeping the score even.
Isabella Tavaglione helped clear the ball with approximately 11½ minutes remaining, then took a throw-in as Pahrump worked to move back upfield. Cindal Monahan sent a ball toward the middle from the right corner a few minutes later, leading to another corner kick. During the ensuing stretch, Raylee Smith sent a long shot wide to the right.

Farruggia also tried from distance on the left side, sending her shot over the goal with about six minutes remaining. Shortly afterward, Meadows converted a shot from the left side across to the right portion of the goal, taking a 2–1 lead with approximately 5½ minutes left before halftime.
The Lady Trojans returned for the second half needing one goal to draw even and quickly put the Meadows goalkeeper to work. Smith sent a deep shot toward goal following a throw-in, then advanced along the right side for another attempt several minutes later. The keeper stopped both chances.
Meadows came close to extending its lead when a long free kick struck the crossbar, but the follow-up attempt went over. Herrera then made a diving save on a run through the middle with about 33 minutes remaining, preserving the one-goal margin.
Herrera continued handling shots as the half progressed, catching a deep ball against her chest and later collecting another bouncing attempt. When a high shot came loose near the goal with roughly nine minutes left, Pahrump’s defense cleared it away.
The Lady Trojans also continued searching for an opening at the other end. Monahan tried to send the ball across from the right side midway through the half, but it caught the side netting. Pahrump added attempts from distance and kept working the ball forward through throw-ins and free kicks.

With less than six minutes remaining, Monahan took a long free kick that went right of the goal. Another late free kick also went wide as the Lady Trojans pressed for an equalizer.
The effort continued through three minutes of added time. Smith took a deep free kick during the closing stretch, and Herrera stopped a Meadows shot after the Mustangs brought the ball back toward Pahrump’s goal.
The final whistle left the Lady Trojans one goal short, but the narrow finish reflected a match in which they remained in contention throughout. An early lead, a scoreless second half on defense and continued chances late gave Pahrump opportunities to extend its postseason until the final minutes. The hard work and growth shown throughout the season give returning players a foundation to build on as they look ahead to next year.
