The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance on Wednesday, January 28, using defensive pressure and balanced scoring to secure a 50–17 home victory over the Cristo Rey Royals.
From the opening tip, the Lady Trojans set the tone with a full man-to-man press that immediately disrupted Cristo Rey’s offense. At the 6:15 mark of the first quarter, Riley Saldaña broke through traffic for a pressured layup to open the scoring. Moments later, Addi Nelsen came up with a steal, and although the Trojans couldn’t convert on that possession, their defensive energy never wavered.
With 5:43 remaining in the quarter, Kaitlyn Brown was fouled hard while attempting a shot inside—getting blocked and knocked to the floor—but she earned trips to the line as Pahrump held a narrow early edge. Nelsen continued to set the defensive tone, diving on the floor to battle for a loose ball and forcing a jump ball. At 4:30, Saldaña was fouled in the paint and knocked down a free throw to extend the lead.

The Trojans added to their momentum at 3:40 when Julie Briggs found Adrian Rogers cutting down the lane for a smooth finish. Late in the quarter, the press paid off again as Jules Ondrisko came up with a steal in the final seconds and finished a contested layup to send Pahrump into the second quarter ahead 8–2.
The Lady Trojans carried that energy into the second quarter. Still pressing, Ondrisko grabbed another steal and scored at 6:48 to make it 10–2. Nelsen followed with a floater from the left corner at 5:25, and Sydney Crotty added a free throw after being fouled on a shot to push the lead to 13–2.
Saldaña made her presence felt on both ends, stealing the ball after a Cristo Rey defensive rebound and then converting both free throws after being fouled hard by the Royals’ post player. Nelsen continued to shine defensively, hitting the floor to force another jump ball before coming up with a steal and draining a floater from the left corner with 1:40 left in the half.
In the closing moments before halftime, Saldaña rebounded Brown’s shot and scored, then added two more free throws to cap a dominant half. The Lady Trojans went into the locker room with a commanding 23–4 advantage.
Pahrump stayed locked in defensively after the break. Early in the third quarter, Cristo Rey was whistled for a moving screen, and Brown forced a jump ball moments later. Brown then got the Trojans’ offense rolling, drilling a three-pointer from the right corner at 4:04 and following it up with another basket to make it 28–7.

The ball movement continued to impress, as Ella Odegard delivered a crisp chest pass from the elbow to Rogers on the block for a score at 1:32. Nelsen capped the quarter with a swish from the left corner, giving Pahrump a 35–10 lead heading into the fourth.
The Lady Trojans finished strong in the final period. Saldaña scored in the paint to open the quarter, Brown added another basket inside, and a pass ahead to Ondrisko resulted in a layup at the 2:30 mark. Crotty scored twice late in the game, and Nelsen closed things out with a final basket in the closing seconds.
With balanced scoring, constant defensive pressure, and strong teamwork throughout the lineup, the Lady Trojans controlled the pace from start to finish and celebrated a convincing 50–17 win in front of the home crowd.
