The PVHS JV boys’ soccer team continued their impressive season with a dominant 3-0 victory over Cristo Rey on Friday, September 6. The Trojans, who had tied their first matchup 1-1 earlier in the season, came out strong and recorded their third shutout, extending their current win streak to four games. With this victory, their overall record now stands at 4-1-1.

Led by captains John Cruz, Rafael Sanchez, and Xavier Leon, the Trojans showcased their balanced play and teamwork throughout the game. Freshman standouts Gabriel Aguilar-Mendoza, Roberto Gonzalez, and Joan Cruz each scored, while assists from Cruz and newcomer Favyan Sida highlighted the team’s growing chemistry and attacking prowess.

The team’s defense, led by goalie Jessie Roman-Barajas, continued to stifle opponents. This latest shutout is a testament to the hard work and discipline of the defensive line, which includes standout performances from up-and-coming players such as Randall Pangilinan, Elijah Trevino, Isaac Dominguez, Samuel Silva, Tommy Harris, and Diego Estrada, alongside defensive leaders Gabriel Franco, Keegan Crews, Logan Carney, Samson Wagner, and freshman Jayden McMahon.

Coach Devin Petersen praised the selfless attitude and dedication of his players. “It’s difficult coming off the pitch and wanting to get back into the game, but the support they show their team on and off the field shows the growth and maturity in these young men,” Petersen said. “This team has pulled together to rise above any adversity as a team.”

One of the game’s key moments came in the second half when captain Joan Cruz scored an incredible unassisted goal off a corner kick that curved directly into the goal, an impressive and rare achievement in soccer. Roberto Gonzalez followed up with his first goal as a Trojan, successfully netting the second goal of the game on another corner kick from Cruz.

With their defense holding strong and their offense firing on all cylinders, the PVHS JV boys’ soccer team is proving to be a formidable force this season. As they continue to grow and develop as a team, the Trojans are setting their sights on more victories ahead.
