The Pahrump Valley High School Tennis teams faced off against Cimarron-Memorial High School at home on September 18, 2024, with mixed results for the boys and girls teams. The PVHS boys dominated their competition, securing a commanding 17-1 victory, while the girls fought hard in their first league match but fell short with a 5-11 score.
The boys team showcased impressive performances across both singles and doubles matches. Milan Vasquez, James Dela Rosa, and Sonny Skinner led the charge in singles, each winning their matches. In doubles, the teams of Jace Eichen and Lucas Johnson, Legend Reigns and Chris Jacks, and Juan Rodriquez and Bryce Dykstra all delivered solid victories. The only loss came from the doubles team of Mariano and Juan, but overall, the boys put on a strong display.
Coach DelaRosa expressed pride in both the boys’ and girls’ efforts, saying, “Us coaches are proud of the boys and girls. Everyone else won three matches. Unfortunately, it was our girls’ first league match, and they fell short to the more experienced team from Cimarron-Memorial. But the girls competed hard throughout.”
For the girls, singles players Alexis Staples, Jemi Chavez, and Abby Amador gave their best effort but were outmatched by their opponents’ experience. The team’s victories came from doubles matches, with Chanel Anthony and Chloe Sitter-Jones, Layla Brunell and Cristiana Baang, and Milly Khandpur and Nyomi Skinner playing.
Despite the challenging start for the girls in their league play, Coach DelaRosa emphasized the hard work and determination shown by both teams. The PVHS Tennis team is looking ahead with optimism as they continue their season, aiming to build on their strengths and learn from each match.
