The Pahrump Valley High School junior varsity girls’ soccer team delivered a strong performance at home on Thursday, September 18, earning a decisive 3-0 victory over Cimarron.
From the opening whistle, goalkeeper Jazmyn Herrera anchored the defense with confident stops, including a chest-level save on a deep penalty kick late in the first half. Despite playing into the wind, the Trojans kept pressing forward. Raylee Smith nearly broke through with multiple looks on goal, while Mitzy Godinez and Avery Farruggia pushed the ball up the field, testing Cimarron’s back line. Mary Miller also created chances, forcing the keeper to scramble before halftime.

The first half ended in a 0-0 deadlock, but Pahrump came out with renewed energy and the wind at their backs in the second half. Just three minutes in, Melissa Nunez-Ramirez crossed from the right side to Smith, who one-timed it into the net for the first goal of the match. Minutes later, Smith struck again, this time breaking away from midfield and finishing into the right side of the goal to double the lead.
Cimarron tried to answer with long balls and set pieces, but Herrera continued to shut them down. The Trojans sealed the win in the closing minutes when Nunez-Ramirez cut inside from the right and placed a perfect shot into the far corner for the team’s third goal.

Head Coach Amy Carlson praised her JV squad not only for the win but also for the growth they’ve shown since the start of the season. “They’ve been successful every game, and what’s exciting is that as they’re learning more skills, they’re also thinking more about the game,” Carlson said. “The scorelines might not be as wide as they were in the beginning, but that just shows their progress. They’re building well, working as a team, and that’s very hopeful for next year.”
With another win under their belts, the JV Trojans continue to set a strong example of teamwork, development, and determination for the future of the program.
