The Nye County School District (NCSD) is rolling out a new system to enhance student safety and improve bus tracking, starting in January. The program includes the use of student ID cards and the StopFinder app, providing families with real-time bus tracking and improved peace of mind.
Student ID Cards for Bus Riders Starting January 6, all students will be required to scan their student ID cards when boarding and exiting the school bus. This system will help ensure that each student boards the correct bus and arrives safely at their designated stop.
Students without an ID card will not be refused a ride. However, drivers will manually log their names and remind them to obtain a new ID from their school.
Beginning January 21, all students must have their own ID cards and swipe them when getting on and off the bus. While no student will be denied a ride for forgetting their ID, repeated failure to bring an ID will result in progressive reminders:
- Three verbal reminders
- Three written Bus Tickets
- Three formal Incident Reports
If the issue persists, students may face suspension from using school bus transportation.
StopFinder App for Parents To further improve the process, parents and guardians can download the free StopFinder app. This app allows families to track their child’s bus location in real-time and receive notifications regarding their child’s arrival and departure. Parents without access to the app can email schoolbus@nyeschools.org for support.
Rollout Timeline The program will launch in Pahrump first. Communities outside of Pahrump will see the new system rolled out after all new buses are delivered and the Pahrump program is fully operational. This is expected to occur during the third quarter of the 2024-2025 school year.
Commitment to Safety NCSD emphasizes that no student will be refused a bus ride unless it is determined they are not assigned to the specific bus or route. The district remains dedicated to the safety and efficiency of its school bus operations.
For additional questions, families are encouraged to contact their child’s school or the NCSD Transportation Department.
