Parents and guardians across Nye County School District will soon have a new way to stay connected with their children’s schools as the district officially transitions all classroom and school communications to Rooms, replacing ClassDojo as its primary communication platform.
The change, announced by the district on Monday, August 3, is intended to simplify communication between schools and families by providing a single platform for classroom updates, school announcements and direct messaging.
According to the district, the move comes in response to feedback from parents who expressed a desire for one unified communication system instead of having to manage multiple apps. District officials say the new platform will be used by every school and staff member throughout Nye County, serving families in Pahrump as well as Amargosa, Beatty, Gabbs, Round Mountain and Tonopah.
One of the biggest changes for families is that parents and guardians who are listed in Infinite Campus already have active Rooms accounts. Rather than waiting for an invitation, users can simply log in using the email address or mobile phone number currently associated with their child’s Infinite Campus account.
District officials noted that families should ensure each parent or guardian has a unique email address or phone number on file. If two guardians share the same contact information in Infinite Campus, the system will be unable to verify which user is requesting access, preventing successful login.
Rooms also eliminates the need for traditional passwords. Instead, parents can sign in by entering their registered email address or phone number and receiving a one-time verification code by text or email. Students can access the platform using the “Sign in with Google” option and their official @nyeschools.org email accounts. District employees who are also parents are instructed to log in using the personal phone number listed in Infinite Campus rather than their district email address.
For families who encounter difficulties accessing their accounts, teachers can generate individualized invitation codes. However, those codes connect only one parent to one student at a time, meaning families with multiple children may need separate invitation codes for each child or classroom.
Beginning Tuesday, August 4, the district will also begin sending automated invitation texts and emails to anyone listed in Infinite Campus who has not yet activated a Rooms account. Reminder messages will continue every three days for up to two weeks until the account has been set up.
To help families with the transition, Nye County School District has created a Parent Toolkit containing step-by-step instructions, troubleshooting resources and support information for Rooms, Infinite Campus and other district digital platforms. The toolkit can be accessed through the district website by selecting Menu, then Quick Links, followed by Parent Tool Kit.
