Mr. Jared Peruch, the dedicated principal of Hafen Elementary School, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for education to his role. After nine months in the position, Mr. Peruch has already made a significant impact, driven by a deep-seated desire to help others reach their potential for greatness. His journey to becoming an educator and school administrator is rooted in his upbringing on an almond farm in rural Central California, near the town of Madera.

Reflecting on his path to education, Mr. Peruch shared, “I chose to be an educator to help others along their path of reaching their potential for greatness.” Growing up in a small community, he was inspired by teachers who encouraged him to pursue higher education. “I felt a call to follow their footsteps and be a guiding light for others, children and adults, to be the best they can be,” he explained.

Mr. Peruch’s primary goal for Hafen Elementary is to create an inclusive environment where all stakeholders feel welcomed and valued. He emphasizes the importance of student achievement but does not solely rely on state tests to define success. “Our students are on a lifelong journey of progress and potential seeking,” he stated. “I don’t want students to be defined by grades and test scores. I want them to come to school and experience learning at its highest level.”

To achieve this vision, Mr. Peruch is working closely with community members to sponsor after-school activities that help students discover new interests and develop their talents. Among the initiatives are a theater production with the art teacher and a robotics club aimed at joining competitions. He is also coordinating with other elementary schools for inter-school competitions to build school pride.

Mr. Peruch’s day starts with a personal routine that guides him through the challenges of his role. “My day, every day, begins with prayer,” he revealed. “I pray over our students and staff, that I might be guided by inspiration in the decisions I make.” His daily routine involves numerous check-ins with office staff, teachers, and students, ensuring that everyone feels welcomed and supported.

Meeting the diverse needs of students and staff is both a challenge and a reward for Mr. Peruch. “It’s a challenge to meet the needs of so many humans, but it’s also rewarding as I see them grow and progress,” he said.

Mr. Peruch places a strong emphasis on community involvement in the educational process. He highlights the invaluable support of the Hafen Parent Action Committee (PAC), which meets monthly to provide insights and support for school activities. Additionally, he is encouraging parents to become room parents and is excited about the school’s adoption by the Lion’s Club.

One of Mr. Peruch’s ambitious projects is creating a nature walk path and tortoise habitat in the school’s back lot, a space that can be used by the community. He is actively seeking grant money and community resources to bring this vision to life.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Peruch is a devoted family man with five children. He stays active by running, coaching soccer, playing Australian rules football, and enjoying disc golf. He also has a passion for drawing, cooking, and spending time with his wife and children. These personal interests help him maintain a balance between his demanding role as a principal and his life outside of work.

    Mr. Peruch and his family

Mr. Peruch’s commitment to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment at Hafen Elementary is evident in his approach and the initiatives he has introduced. His vision for the school, combined with his dedication to fostering community involvement, sets a positive tone for the future of Hafen Elementary School.
