The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ volleyball B team closed its season at home against Moapa Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 13, putting together a competitive opening set and continuing to work for points throughout a two-set loss. The Pirates won 25-21 and 25-14, but the Lady Trojans’ final match included determined defensive efforts, well-placed tips and a late serving run that brought Pahrump even with Moapa Valley in the first set.
The evening marked the conclusion of a season of growth for the young team, with each match providing opportunities to develop serving, passing, communication and confidence on the court. Against the Pirates, the Trojans had another chance to put those skills into practice before turning their attention toward next year.
Pahrump earned the opening point when Moapa Valley served into the net. The Pirates moved ahead 3-1, but the Trojans stayed close, picking up points through rallies and taking advantage of Moapa Valley’s errors. With Pahrump trailing 5-6, Shemayne Bosket delivered a serve the Pirates could not return to tie the set at 6-6.
The teams were even again at 7-7 before Moapa Valley began building a lead. Pahrump continued to find ways to respond. A serve from Aurora Eyraud that the Pirates could not return helped bring the Trojans within 11-13, and Kelsey Haase made a diving attempt to keep the next ball alive.
Bosket contributed a tip to make it 12-15, while Lyra Tointigh later sent a tip over the net for another Pahrump point. Bosket followed with an ace, cutting the deficit to 14-17 and keeping the Trojans within reach.
Moapa Valley eventually extended its advantage to 21-16, but Pahrump made its strongest push of the evening in the closing stretch. With Haase at the service line, the Trojans erased the deficit. An ace brought Pahrump within 19-21, another serve the Pirates could not return made it 20-21, and a second ace tied the score at 21-21.
The rally put the Trojans back in contention late in the set and gave them an opportunity to challenge for the lead. Moapa Valley answered with the final four points, taking the opener 25-21.

The second set brought a more difficult start as the Pirates’ serving helped them establish an 11-1 lead. Pahrump continued working to regain its footing, earning a point on a Moapa Valley serve into the net before Audaseli Pinder set the ball to Bosket, who tipped it over for 3-11.
The Trojans added points as the Pirates sent attacks out or into the net, gradually moving their total forward. Haase supplied another ace to bring Pahrump to 11-17, giving the team a lift midway through the set.
Pahrump continued competing through the final rallies and reached 14 points before Moapa Valley completed the 25-14 win.

The season finale gave the Lady Trojans both encouraging moments and areas to build upon. Their first-set comeback showed how effective serving could change the momentum, while the second set offered another lesson in working through a difficult stretch. As the players look toward next year, they carry experience from a season spent learning together and a clearer understanding of the skills they can continue developing.
