The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling program delivered a strong showing Tuesday, January 6, as the JV and girls teams hosted CIVICA Academy in Pahrump. With CIVICA limited in several weight classes, the night featured a mix of scored JV bouts and exhibition matches against Trojan varsity wrestlers, allowing Pahrump Valley to maximize mat time while continuing to develop depth across the program. The Trojans turned in dominant performances throughout the lineup, earning a 72–0 team victory.
The 106-pound weight class resulted in a double forfeit, as neither Pahrump Valley nor CIVICA had a wrestler entered. Competition officially began at 113 pounds, where Scott Powers received a forfeit before wrestling an exhibition match against his brother, Ethan Rouse. Powers scored the first two takedowns in a competitive and energetic bout before Rouse secured the fall, giving the crowd a memorable family matchup to open the night.

At 120 pounds, Zachary Hulderson received a forfeit and then wrestled an exhibition match against senior Joseph Scheer. The two put together a fast-paced, back-and-forth contest that came down to the final moments, with Hulderson earning an 8–7 decision. Zelin Kamanu followed at 126 pounds, receiving a forfeit before facing J. Pena of CIVICA in an exhibition match. Kamanu controlled the action throughout, showcasing a strong offensive attack on his way to a 21–4 technical fall victory.


Azael Machuca-Castillo continued the Trojans’ momentum in his exhibition match against J. Pena, controlling the bout from the opening whistle before securing a pin in the second period. At 138 pounds, Carlos Flores received a forfeit and then wrestled J. Caesar of CIVICA in an exhibition, coming out aggressively and earning a pin in under a minute.


Angel Mundo competed at 144 pounds against J. Caesar, securing an opening takedown and maintaining control on the mat before earning a pin early in the second period. At 150 pounds, Wesley Cruff received a forfeit and then faced K. Cona of CIVICA in an exhibition match, scoring an early takedown and recording a pin in just 34 seconds.
Bryce Whitney followed at 157 pounds, wrestling K. Cona and scoring two takedowns before finishing the match with a first-period pin. At 165 pounds, Jayden McMahon received a forfeit and then wrestled teammate Mason Whitney in an exhibition, with Mason taking control early and earning a first-period fall. Jonathan Lopez also received a forfeit at 175 pounds before wrestling teammate Paul Walker in an exhibition match, where Walker scored four takedowns on his way to a second-period pin.



The 190-pound weight class resulted in another double forfeit before action resumed at 215 pounds. Marlon Garcia received a forfeit and then wrestled G. De La Cruz of CIVICA in an exhibition, scoring an early takedown and pinning his opponent in just 25 seconds. At heavyweight, Sione Petelo closed out the JV action at 285 pounds, wrestling G. De La Cruz and earning a fall early in the third period.
The girls team opened the night with strong performances of their own. At 125 pounds, Sarah Penner wrestled K. Vargas of CIVICA, taking control early and securing a first-period pin. Patience Moore followed at 130 pounds, wrestling aggressively and capitalizing on an early takedown to earn a fall in 48 seconds.



With dominant performances, valuable exhibition mat time, and strong contributions across the lineup, the Trojans’ JV and girls wrestlers put together a complete team effort. The night highlighted not only the program’s success on the scoreboard, but also its continued focus on development, opportunity, and depth as the season progresses.
