The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ varsity volleyball team delivered an energetic and memorable performance at home on Wednesday, April 29, sweeping American Heritage Academy in three sets on a night dedicated to honoring its senior class.

Before the first serve, the Trojans took time to recognize a large and impactful group of seniors alongside their families. William Coen, Alexander Mahoney, Ryan Nasso, Jaden Pedero, Andy Sanchez, Jack Schable, Elijah Thompson, Nicholas Watson, Tristan Whaley, James Wilson, and team manager Arlene Orzechowski were all celebrated for their contributions to the program, setting the tone for a night that blended emotion with high-level play.

When the match began, Pahrump Valley wasted little time finding its rhythm. After trading early points, the Trojans surged ahead behind a powerful offensive showing from Andy Sanchez, whose early kills ignited the crowd and helped build momentum. Jack Schable added pressure from the service line, recording an ace and helping stretch the lead, while Sanchez continued to find open floor with well-placed attacks.

American Heritage Academy responded with a mid-set push, capitalizing on a few Trojan miscues to briefly take the lead, but Pahrump Valley quickly regrouped. Elijah Thompson delivered a timely tip to even the score, and Tristan Whaley followed with a strong finish at the net to reclaim control. From there, the Trojans leaned on a balanced attack, with Alexander Mahoney contributing key swings and Ryan Nasso stepping in at the service line during a crucial stretch.

As the set progressed, Pahrump Valley tightened up defensively and capitalized on opponent errors. Schable added another ace, and a highlight save at the net kept momentum firmly on the Trojans’ side. Thompson’s aggressive serving late in the set created chaos for the Patriots’ defense, leading to a decisive 25-17 opening set win.

The second set saw American Heritage come out strong, grabbing an early edge, but the Trojans answered quickly. Mahoney played a major role in the turnaround, mixing hard spikes with well-placed tips to keep the defense guessing. Nasso contributed a key ace during a momentum-building run, while the front row combined for several strong finishes at the net.

Pahrump Valley steadily widened the gap as the set wore on. Smart plays, including forcing errors and capitalizing on miscommunication, allowed the Trojans to stay in control. Late in the set, Mahoney again delivered in key moments, finishing rallies and helping push the lead out of reach. The Trojans closed out the second set 25-16, putting themselves one set away from the sweep.

In the third set, the Trojans maintained their intensity. Sanchez continued to lead offensively, delivering powerful swings that either found open space or forced difficult returns. Whaley and Mahoney added to the attack, while Nasso’s serving helped create separation midway through the set.

Despite a brief push from American Heritage, Pahrump Valley stayed composed. Mahoney showcased his versatility with a mix of tips and a strong block late in the set, while Nicholas Watson added an exclamation point with an ace to close out the match. The Trojans secured the final set 25-18, completing the sweep in front of an energized home crowd.

The victory was a fitting way to celebrate a senior group that has helped shape the program, combining strong offense, steady defense, and a clear sense of teamwork throughout the match.
