Tim Sutton, who has served as Nye County Manager and Pahrump Town Manager, has announced his resignation, effective September 13, 2024. Sutton’s departure marks the end of a 16-year tenure in various roles within the county, during which he made significant contributions to the community.
Sutton began his career with Nye County in 2008 as a law clerk for Judge Robert Lane. After completing a two-year clerkship, he opened and managed a solo family law practice until he was recruited by current District Attorney Brian Kunzi to join the District Attorney’s Office in 2011. Sutton served as a civil deputy DA for seven years before being invited by former County Manager Pam Webster to apply for the county manager position upon her retirement.
Reflecting on his seven years as county manager, Sutton described his time as “an adventure,” filled with challenges such as COVID-19, natural disasters, and fiscal management, as well as numerous accomplishments. “We have been through COVID, Storm 51, floods, fires, windstorms, and fiscal watches,” Sutton noted in his resignation letter. However, he also highlighted the positive developments during his tenure, including the construction of several new buildings, the establishment of a grants team, and the revitalization of the Peace Officer Advisory Review Board.
Among the many achievements under his leadership, Sutton emphasized the formation of an internal labor negotiations team, the refreshment of job descriptions to emphasize merit, the consolidation of town and county government functions, and the deployment of energy efficiency measures for county buildings. He also initiated the “Extra Mile Award” employee recognition program and successfully applied for and obtained Rural Partner Network designation.
Sutton expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve Nye County and his hope that the county will continue to thrive. “These are just a few of the many successes we have worked for together, and I hope the county will see many more,” Sutton wrote.
Although he is stepping down from his role as county manager, Sutton plans to remain actively involved in the community. He announced that he will be opening a law and consulting firm in Pahrump. “I’m sure I will see you around,” he added.
Sutton concluded his letter by thanking the community for their support and wishing them all the best in the future. His resignation marks the end of an era for Nye County, but his contributions and leadership will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.
