Matt Sadler Looks to Serve the Community He Calls Home

For Matt Sadler, Pahrump became home long before his family made the move permanent in 2019. Visits for local festivals, time spent helping a family member start a business and trips to assist clients gave him an appreciation for the community’s slower pace and personal connections. Now, as a candidate for Nye County Commissioner, District 5, Sadler says he wants to help preserve the qualities that brought his family here while supporting opportunities for the community to grow.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Sadler began developing ties to Pahrump while helping a family member establish a business in 2010. By 2014, his own bail bonds business was bringing him or one of his agents to the area to meet with clients. Over time, moving both his family and his operations began to make sense.

“Las Vegas is my hometown—born and raised, but I felt the city outgrew us,” Sadler said. “My family has not looked back, and the personal connections we’ve made in Pahrump have become priceless. This is our home.”

Those connections, along with what he describes as a less stressful way of life, remain central to his appreciation for Pahrump. He values the independence residents enjoy and the community’s “live and let live” outlook, qualities he hopes to maintain as Nye County plans for its future.

For Sadler, that future includes a broader range of businesses and services. He sees opportunities for employers of different sizes to establish themselves locally, expanding shopping, medical care, recreation and activities for children.

His approach to that growth centers on an open and transparent process, with businesses having a fair opportunity to operate. He said he wants the county to follow its master plan and existing zoning, with careful consideration of how changes to land use and county codes affect residents’ ability to enjoy their property.

That interest in how local decisions are made helped lead him to seek office. Sadler said he wants county government to listen to residents, respond to their concerns and manage public resources responsibly. His own dissatisfaction with the representation he has experienced prompted him to become a candidate.

Listening is also something he hopes residents will recognize about him beyond the campaign.

“I will always try to listen to you more than I talk,” Sadler said. “I have my convictions that are unwavering, but I love to come to a better understanding with every person I connect with.”

He identifies the Golden Rule as a foundation for his decisions, placing importance on treating others well and communicating honestly. For Sadler, being direct and being gracious are responsibilities that go together, including when people disagree.

Away from campaigning, his schedule revolves around work and family. Because calls and client appointments can come at any hour, he tries to work from home when possible and make the most of the time between appointments. Like other parents and spouses, he said, he works to balance those demands with everyday family life.

Asked what makes him most proud, Sadler pointed to his wife and children, particularly their willingness to give their time and resources. He said his family views money as a tool rather than an end in itself, an outlook he connects to their faith and gratitude for what they have.

There is also a part of his background that may surprise people who have encountered him on the campaign trail. Until about five years ago, Sadler said, he had a significant fear of public speaking and would freeze when faced with addressing a group. Stepping into a more public role has meant working through that discomfort.

His hopes for public involvement extend beyond his own candidacy. When asked what success in office would look like, Sadler described residents becoming more engaged in local government, sustaining that involvement and considering opportunities to serve themselves, whether through elected office or other government positions.

By the end of a term, he said, he would hope residents saw progress in responsible financial management and preservation of the county’s rural lifestyle. He would also like his service to help build confidence in local government and encourage others to participate in shaping its direction.

As voters consider who will represent District 5, Sadler is sharing both his priorities for county government and the experiences that made Pahrump his family’s home. Early voting is underway ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

In Pahrump, early voting is available at the Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 N. Highway 160, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 19–23 and Oct. 26–30, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24. The location is closed Sundays. Early voting is also available at the Pahrump Senior Center, 1370 W. Basin Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 and 28.
