The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans’ boys basketball B-team faced off against the SLAM Bulls on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at home, demonstrating determination and flashes of skill despite falling short with a 35-62 loss. The game highlighted standout efforts from several players and provided valuable lessons for a young team working to find its rhythm.

The game opened with the Trojans only scoring four points in the first quarter with baskets by Kamden Moore and Daniel Thompson. The second quarter got going for the Trojans with a thrilling three-pointer from Tanner Gott, setting a tone of effort and energy. Moore added to the momentum, scoring from an open position underneath the basket. The Trojans trailed 13-37 at halftime, with Anthony Montanez contributing a key play, earning an “and-1” after a foul.

As the game progressed, Josh Gent made his mark at the free throw line, sinking both shots following a foul. Keldan Frederiksen capitalized on a pass from Montanez to score from underneath, keeping the Trojans fighting into the third quarter, which ended with the Bulls leading 24-52.

In the fourth quarter, the Trojans continued to push forward. Moore scored again underneath the basket, and Kobe Farmer added points in the paint. Montanez showcased his versatility with a skillful layup through traffic, Thompson added a basket and Frederiksen added a free throw, rounding out the team’s effort. Despite their efforts, the Trojans ultimately fell 35-62.

Following the game, B-team Head Coach Cameron Cannon shared insights on the team’s progress and challenges. “We had plans to implement a new offense, but after discussing it with our Varsity coaches, we decided the team isn’t quite ready yet,” he explained. “Some of them are still fairly raw, but we’ve got good talent, especially on our freshman team. It’s exciting to think about the potential for this season.”

Coach Cannon, who took the position just a few weeks ago, remains optimistic about the team’s growth. “The first two games have been tough, but with the addition of new players and time to build chemistry, I’m confident we’ll see improvement.”

He also praised individual performances: “Daniel Thompson played really well defensively, Keldan Frederiksen had an all-around strong game with heads-up plays, and Anthony Montanez showed great skill on the court.”

As the Trojans prepare for their next game, Coach Cannon emphasized the need to focus on “general court awareness, taking care of the ball, and maintaining intensity for the full 40 minutes.” With continued effort and development, the team aims to turn early struggles into future success.

While the scoreboard may not have favored the Trojans, their determination hints at a promising season ahead. The players and coaching staff are dedicated to improving with every game, and Trojan fans can look forward to seeing their growth in the weeks to come.
