Great Basin College is offering students an opportunity to train for careers in modern manufacturing through its Manufacturing Machining Technology program, a two-year program designed to provide hands-on experience with both traditional machining and advanced computer-controlled equipment.
With the fall semester beginning Monday, Aug. 24, prospective students still have time to get started. Great Basin College will continue registering students during the first week of classes, giving those interested in the program a final opportunity to enroll for the fall semester.
The Manufacturing Machining Technology program combines instruction in manual machine operations with training in Computer Numeric Control, commonly known as CNC, machining. Students learn skills used in today’s manufacturing industry while gaining practical experience with the equipment and technology they may encounter in the workplace.
Training includes precision Computer-Aided Manufacturing, or CAM, programming, as well as the setup and operation of CNC mills and lathes. The program is intended to prepare students for employment in manufacturing and other industries that rely on precision machining and advanced manufacturing technology.
Those skills can translate into opportunities across a variety of fields, including aerospace, robotics, gaming and other industries where precisely manufactured components are essential.
The two-year format gives students the opportunity to develop their skills over time while building both the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to enter the workforce.
For students concerned about the cost of training, financial assistance may also be available. The program is eligible for financial aid, and scholarships are available for qualifying students.
Great Basin College is encouraging those interested in manufacturing careers to enroll early, as space in the program is limited.
With classes beginning Monday, prospective students who have not yet registered should act quickly, though the college will continue working with students who enroll during the first week of the semester.
