Trojans Turn First Weekday Meet Into Strong Training Opportunity at Chaparral

The Pahrump Valley High School track and field team returned to competition Tuesday, March 3, traveling to Chaparral High School for the program’s first weekday meet of the season. With the Trojans bringing the largest roster to the event, many races featured a heavy presence of Pahrump athletes, creating an environment that felt more like an extended team workout than a traditional scored meet.

Timing equipment issues during portions of the meet also led coaches and athletes to focus less on official placements and more on effort and performance. Despite those challenges, the Trojans took advantage of the opportunity to gain valuable race experience and continue building momentum early in the season.

Field events were limited at the facility, with only high jump, long jump, and triple jump contested. Even with the reduced slate, Pahrump athletes made their presence known across the board.

In the girls high jump, Rosie Miller led the way by clearing 4’10”. Kimberly Trejo followed with a clearance of 4’8”, Aurora Bowers cleared 4’6”, and Mary Miller rounded out the Trojans’ top performers at 4’2”.

The boys high jump was highlighted by a personal best from Aydon Veloz, who cleared 5’10”. Kris Trejo also had a strong showing at 5’4”, while Josh Gent finished fourth with a height of 5’0”.

Pahrump athletes also turned in solid performances in the long jump. Veloz led the Trojan boys, finishing first among his teammates and second overall with a leap of 17’11”. Jayden Crisler followed with a jump of 17’8”, placing third. Kelan Sheppard recorded a mark of 14’10”, Kris Trejo jumped 13’3”, Ethan Johnson reached 12’10”, and Josh Flores posted a jump of 11’0”.

On the girls side, Aurora Bowers led the way with a first-place finish and a jump of 15’2”. Diona Nixon took third with a mark of 14’7”, while Melanie Carson added a jump of 10’7”.

The Trojans also saw strong results in the triple jump. Jayden Crisler captured first place with an impressive leap of 40’4”, while Daniel Thompson recorded a jump of 30’3”. For the girls, Sarah Brown posted a mark of 25’4”.

On the track, nearly every available Trojan athlete competed, with runners taking on a variety of races throughout the meet. Some athletes ran their usual events, while others stepped into new distances to gain experience and help fill the lineup.

Several Trojans turned in standout performances. Josh Gent claimed first place in the mile, while Joaquin Flores had a particularly strong day, finishing first in both the 800 meters and the 400 meters. In the 400-meter race, Jace Wulfenstein also placed second overall.

The girls 400 meters saw another strong showing for Pahrump, with Avery Farruggia finishing first and Aurora Bowers taking second.

In the hurdles, Jayden Crisler led the boys by finishing first in the 300-meter hurdles. Diona Nixon dominated the girls hurdle events, finishing first in both the 300-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles. The 100-meter hurdles race featured an all-Trojan field, highlighting the team’s depth in the event.

While the meet presented some logistical challenges, the Trojans made the most of the opportunity to compete and test themselves across a variety of events. With such a large group of athletes participating and many stepping into unfamiliar races, the evening served as a valuable chance for runners and jumpers to get more competition experience under their belts early in the season and continue settling into the rhythm of meet-day competition.
