Desert Lotus Salon brought together beauty professionals from across Pahrump for a day of collaboration, creativity, and continued education. The event, hosted by salon owners Alice Cummings and Abbie Rivera, marked the second “furthering education” class held in recent months—part of a growing effort to strengthen professional connections within the local stylist community.
What made the gathering stand out was its focus on “Community vs. Competition.” Rather than seeing one another as rivals, stylists from multiple salons joined forces to learn, share techniques, and celebrate their shared craft. “We’re really good friends with stylists in many salons and love collaborating with them,” said Cummings. “It’s great to host these events and see everyone come together.”

The class was led by Miranda Knight, a Pahrump Valley High School alumna and owner of VALURE Knight & Co.—a boutique salon based in Las Vegas. Knight instructed attendees on how to avoid over-foiling and gave a live demonstration of the balayage technique, walking participants through her process step by step.
Stylists in attendance included Kami Saunders, Hailey Hosino, and Bianca Baron from Desert Lotus; Alex Olszanecki of Bella Salon; Mindy Coles of Today’s Image; and Stephanie Weske of New You. Misty Bowlin served as the model for the class, allowing participants to see each stage of the transformation up close.

For Cummings, the event was more than just a professional workshop—it was a reminder of the strong sense of camaraderie that exists among Pahrump’s stylists. “We’re all here to grow, to keep learning, and to support one another,” she said. “That’s what makes our community so special.”
