The second quarter at Manse Elementary School has been a whirlwind of activity, bringing together students, staff, families, and the wider community for a series of memorable events. The school’s dedication to fostering a strong sense of community and promoting engagement has been on full display. Here are some of the key highlights from this exciting period:

    First Annual Turkey Trot 5K

Kicking off the quarter with energy and enthusiasm, the Turkey Trot 5K, organized by Manse’s social worker Sierra McKillips, was a resounding success. This event encouraged fitness and wellness among students, staff, and families. Parents joined their children during special classes to run or walk the track outside the school gates, with safety monitored by the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Unit. Prizes were awarded to the top three runners, celebrating their hard work and determination. The event emphasized the importance of healthy habits and brought the community closer together.

    Career Week

Career exploration came to life during Manse’s Career Week, planned by second-grade teachers Cindi Hastings and Ginger Johnston. Students rotated through sessions featuring guest speakers from a wide array of professions, including representatives from VEA, Cunningham Construction, Channel 41, C&S Waste Disposal, Pahrump Fire & Rescue, the Nye County Sheriff’s Department K-9 and SWAT units, and DV Rangers Explorations. The engaging presentations and hands-on demonstrations provided students with inspiration and insight into future career possibilities.

    Third Annual Cookies with Santa

A favorite tradition returned with the third annual Cookies with Santa event, delighting students and families alike. Organized by the Engagement Committee, with significant contributions from first-grade teacher Mrs. Ryles, the event was a celebration of holiday cheer. Families decorated cookies, sipped hot cocoa, and enjoyed popcorn while taking photos with Santa. Volunteers from the Girl Scouts and the Manse Student Council lent a hand, ensuring the event ran smoothly. A special highlight was the donation of five bikes by the Avery Project, raffled off to lucky participants, making the event even more magical.

    Supporting the Salvation Army

Manse Elementary extended its community spirit beyond school walls, with Mr. Chandler and Mrs. Gilligan volunteering as bell ringers for the Salvation Army at Walmart. Their cheerful greetings and efforts helped raise funds for programs supporting Nye County residents in need.

    Second Annual Holiday Hallway Cheer

The staff at Manse Elementary were treated to a festive send-off before winter break with the second annual Holiday Hallway Cheer event. Thanks to James Bischoff from Universal Retirement, who sponsored the beverage and treat cart, and contributions from Melissa Dodge, her daughter Lindsay, and Mahana Tehuiotoa, the celebration was brimming with homemade goodies. Cupcakes, brownies, scones, and chocolate-covered pretzels were just some of the treats offered as the cart, accompanied by holiday music, made its way down each hallway, spreading joy and gratitude to the hardworking staff.

This quarter’s events have highlighted the vibrant, supportive atmosphere at Manse Elementary School, where community and engagement are at the heart of every activity. As the school looks forward to the second half of the year, it continues to build on its mission to inspire students and strengthen connections with families and the wider community.
