PVHS Boys Soccer Faces Tough Challenge Against Cristo Rey, Looks Ahead with Determination

The PVHS boys soccer team took on Cristo Rey on Friday, September 6, in a challenging match that ended with a 7-0 loss. While the game was tough for the Trojans, Head Coach Andrew Norton sees areas for growth and is focused on the changes that need to be made to turn things around.

“Realistically, it wasn’t our best performance,” Coach Norton admitted. “We allowed too many shots on goal, and there are some big positional adjustments coming. But we’re addressing these issues, and I believe we’ll see improvement going forward.”

Despite the tough loss, Caydan, the Trojans’ goalkeeper, put up an incredible effort, facing a barrage of shots while continuing to hold his ground. The standout player of the match, however, was Erick Gastelum, who came off the bench and impressed the coaching staff with his relentless determination.

“Erick showed no quit,” said Norton. “He continued to pressure the ball and fought hard for every opportunity, even when the morale was low. His effort didn’t change the score, but it made an impact on the coaches.”

As the team looks ahead, the focus is on learning from this experience and implementing key adjustments. With a mindset of resilience and a drive to improve, the Trojans are preparing to come back stronger in their next match.

Coach Norton added, “We’ve faced some challenges, but we’re making changes and moving forward. We’ll learn from this and continue to grow as a team.”
