The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team competed at the Bonanza Round Up this past weekend, January 10-11, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams delivering hard-fought performances in individual matches. Each wrestler contributed to the team’s overall success as they prepare for the postseason in just a few weeks.

The varsity boys faced tough competition, with several standout performances. Oscar Bosket (190) led the way, going undefeated at 5-0 to claim 1st place in his weight class. His brother, Iyan Bosket (175), finished strong with a 5-1 record, earning 3rd place. Joaquin Flores (126) and Joseph Scheer (113) each went 3-2, securing 4th place finishes in their respective weight classes. Billy Sparks (215) battled to a 3-2 record, while Jayden Crisler (144) posted a solid 2-1 record.

Several other wrestlers competed admirably, gaining valuable experience along the way. Ben De Santiago (138), Ethan Rouse (106), and Austin Alvarez (157) each finished 2-2, while Bishop Carter (132) also went 2-2 in his matches. Ryan Hamlin (150), Zach Hulderson (120), Anthony Hunt (Heavyweight), and Kelson Cross-Smith (165) each fought hard but ended the tournament with 0-2 records. The Boys Team placed 4th out of 25 teams, a significant achievement showcasing their collective efforts and improvement this season.

On the girls’ side, Payton Weaver (120) delivered a standout performance, finishing 5-1 and earning 3rd place in her weight class. Tiler Ledford (170) also excelled, going 2-1 and securing 2nd place. Sarah Penner (120) and Amelia Graziano (155) competed fiercely but both finished 0-2.

Head Coach Frank Lopez was pleased with the team’s efforts and the progress shown across the board. “The weekend went well. Oscar won the Bonanza Round Up and is wrestling at the highest level I’ve ever seen him at. Payton Weaver is a hammer and really hitting her stride. That goes for our whole team, though. Our entire room had an uptick in pace and toughness last week. Boys and girls are both showing up every day and working extremely hard. It’s very refreshing to see the output of effort driven by want and desire. As a whole, we are on an upward trend at the right time.”

The Pahrump Valley wrestlers are gaining momentum as they gear up for the postseason, demonstrating their dedication and readiness to compete at a high level. The weekend’s performances reflect the team’s hard work and determination to achieve their goals.
