The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team showcased their strength and determination on Wednesday, January 15, with a dominant performance in their dual against Sunrise Mountain. The Trojans varsity team emerged victorious with an impressive 77-6 win, while the junior varsity team followed suit with a 52-15 triumph. The team also celebrated notable victories from their girls’ wrestlers, demonstrating the depth and diversity of talent in the program.
The varsity squad left no doubt about their dominance, winning 13 out of 14 matches. Ethan Rouse (106), Ben De Santiago (138), Austin Alvarez (157), and Paul Walker (165) secured victories by pin, while Iyan Bosket (175) claimed a win by technical superiority. A strong showing from wrestlers like Zach Hulderson (113), Dominic Chiancone (120), Joaquin Flores (126), Bishop Carter (132), Jayden Crisler (144), Ryan Hamlin (150), Oscar Bosket (190), and Billy Sparks (215), who all won by forfeit, contributed to the team’s overwhelming victory. The sole varsity loss came in the heavyweight division, where Anthony Hunt fought valiantly but was pinned.
The junior varsity team mirrored their varsity counterparts with a commanding performance, winning 52-15. Notable victories included Jacob Stepp (165), Jairo Bravo (175), and Bruce Howard (215), who all won by pin, and Joseph Scheer (113), who won by points in a hard-fought match. Other contributors included Cameron Scherer (132), Jacob McLaughlin (138), Horus Cantwell (144), Jacob Seeback (157), and Sonny Skinner (190), all winning by forfeit. Despite losses by Jace Eichner (150) and Julio Ackerman (heavyweight), the JV team demonstrated resilience and teamwork.
Pahrump’s female wrestlers added to the day’s success with standout performances. Sarah Penner took on two opponents from Valley High School, winning her first match on points before narrowly losing her second by pin. Payton Weaver earned an impressive pin against a Sunrise Mountain opponent, and Tiler Ledford showcased her skills by winning her match on points. The girls’ contributions highlighted the inclusivity and strength of the wrestling program.
The Trojans’ wrestling program continues to grow and develop, building a strong foundation of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
