Pahrump Theatre Company is inviting audiences to embrace their inner supervillain later this month with its upcoming production of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, a musical comedy that has earned a devoted following for its unique blend of humor, romance and comic book-inspired storytelling.
Directed by Alex Lannin, the production will open Friday, Aug. 28, at the Calvada Theater and continue over two weekends, offering local theatergoers six opportunities to enjoy the offbeat musical.
Originally created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, Zack Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog tells the story of an aspiring supervillain determined to earn a place in the Evil League of Evil while navigating an ongoing rivalry with his overconfident superhero nemesis. Caught in the middle is the kindhearted woman they both admire, setting the stage for a story filled with comedy, catchy songs, romance and plenty of supervillain chaos.
The Pahrump Theatre Company cast features Nate Hollis in the title role as Dr. Horrible, with Mallory Barger portraying his heroic rival, Captain Hammer. Morningstarr Vella rounds out the lead trio as Penny, the compassionate woman whose optimism and generosity become central to the story.
While packed with laugh-out-loud moments and memorable musical numbers, the production also explores themes of ambition, love and the unintended consequences that can arise when good intentions collide with personal dreams.
Performances are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. The show returns the following weekend with evening performances on Friday, Sept. 4, and Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m., followed by a final matinee on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m.
All performances will be held at the Calvada Theater, located at 1266 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 1, in Pahrump.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for veterans and seniors, and $10 for children.
Audience members who prefer to pay when they arrive may do so by selecting the “Pay at the Door” option when reserving tickets online. Choosing that option allows patrons to reserve their seats without making an advance payment, with payment collected upon arrival at the theater.
