A new youth athletic training opportunity is launching in Pahrump this month, with local coach and trainer David Wilson introducing Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics, a program designed to help young athletes build strong foundations in movement, strength, and overall athleticism.
Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics will focus on boys and girls ages 5 to 18, bringing together youth of similar ages to train in structured group sessions. The goal of the program is to enhance overall athletic performance in a fun, positive, and supportive environment, while helping kids develop skills that carry over to all sports and physical activities.
“I’m super excited to start,” Wilson said. “Right now, it’s just going to be me, but the focus is on getting kids moving, learning proper techniques, and building confidence together.”
During the school year, training sessions will take place once a week on Sunday mornings at the Pahrump Valley High School track and field facility. The program is set to begin Sunday, January 25, with sessions running every Sunday for the remainder of the school year. Training will be held between 8 and 11 a.m., with individual sessions lasting approximately 60 to 75 minutes, depending on age group.
In the summer months, Wilson plans to expand the program to three training days per week, allowing athletes more frequent opportunities to build endurance, strength, and speed. Exact summer schedules and start dates will be announced soon.
According to the program flyer, Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics emphasizes six key areas of athletic development: speed, agility, strength, jumping, endurance, and flexibility. Training will include running techniques to improve sprinting and speed, footwork and balance drills for better agility and directional movement, bodyweight and functional strength exercises, plyometrics for explosive jumping ability, endurance training for stamina across sports, and stretching and mobility work to support flexibility and injury prevention.
Wilson also shared that Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics falls under a larger umbrella brand he is developing called Over the Mountain Athletics. The brand will encompass several sports and fitness programs in the community, including Pahrump Valley Junior Golf, Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics, and his personal training services based at the gym in Mountain Falls.
“Over the Mountain Athletics is something I’m just starting, so I’m still getting everything together,” Wilson said. “It’s meant to bring all of my sports programs in Pahrump under one name and help grow youth athletics here.”
The mission of Pahrump Valley Junior Athletics is to help local youth improve their athleticism through fun, challenging training while fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere. The program is open to athletes of all experience levels, whether they are new to sports or already competing in school or club programs.
