    Mama’s Musings: Just Wait

We’ve all heard it… you’re out having a perfectly good moment with your kids are someone feels the need to interject with a sly “just wait ’til…”.

I’m here to loudly, rudely interrupt that with a flat out no. Not a timid laugh and shrug, not a polite “oh, we’ll see”, not even a thank you tacked onto the no. A dead-eyed stare, flat out glare of a no.

What exactly am I supposed to being waiting ’til? My youngest is old enough to sleep through the night and therefore so do I? All three of my kiddos are competent enough to swim safely at a waterpark and I won’t have to constantly relive my teenage lifeguard career? They become teenagers and we get to discuss important topics on a level they currently can’t comprehend? They get to begin their adult lives with the full backing of my support and love? My husband and I get to enter the empty-nester stage and enjoy extra time together?

I firmly believe each stage has its ups and downs. I firmly believe the ups are worth seeking out and celebrating at each and every one of those stages. No, random stranger projecting, your personal issues with parenthood, aging, and marriage have nothing to do with me and my family. Our lives are only getting better, if only because that’s what we choose to focus on.

Disclaimer/Reality Check: Feel free to tell the next person who tell you to just wait that you can’t wait, that it’ll be awesome. I know I will. This column will be about motherhood, parenting, and homemaking for the most part. It might be about getting rid of your smart phone, or a list of my favorite technology in this phase of mother hood (the washer and a roomba are amazing inventions). Most importantly, I don’t ever want this column to make another mama think she’s not doing enough. If you’re reading this, I want you to know that you are, you’re doing great, keep it up. Sing it with me: no-one is doing it allllll!
