The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ junior varsity soccer team scored in the final seconds Monday, Sept. 14, to secure a 3-2 road victory over Boulder City.
Pahrump began creating opportunities early, earning a corner kick from the right side before Santiago Casanova sent a deep shot toward the goal. The Trojans’ goalkeeper also remained alert at the other end, recording a pair of saves to keep the match scoreless.
With approximately 10 minutes remaining in the opening half, Pahrump produced two quick attempts. The first struck the goalpost, while the follow-up shot missed its target.
Boulder City broke through one minute later, finding an open look and placing the ball into the left side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Trojans responded with two minutes remaining before halftime. Ian Baka advanced along the right wing and delivered the ball into the middle, where Corbin Larsen finished the play with a touch to even the score at 1-1.
Boulder City attempted to answer during the closing minute, but the Trojans prevented the host team from finishing its opportunity. Larsen then delivered another ball from the left side before the halftime whistle, but Pahrump was unable to put it away.
The Trojans continued attacking after the break. Larsen took a shot from the left side, and Abraham Rivas followed with an attempt from the right.
Pahrump moved ahead with approximately 25 minutes remaining. After the ball was centered from the right side, Jose Aguilar connected on the finish to give the Trojans a 2-1 advantage.
Larsen continued pressuring the Boulder City defense with another shot, while Timothy Clarke later sent an attempt from the left side that traveled just wide of the right post.
The Pahrump goalkeeper secured a bouncing shot with 11 minutes remaining, but Boulder City found the equalizer two minutes later to tie the match at 2-2.
The Trojans pushed for the deciding goal during the closing minutes. Tyler Leavitt reached a centered ball with approximately three minutes remaining, but his attempt went wide of the left side of the goal. Pahrump generated another chance from directly in front of the net with 90 seconds left, but the shot missed.
Pahrump continued pressing until the final whistle. A ball sent into the middle from the right side rolled through several players before Leavitt reached it and knocked it into the net. The whistle sounded immediately afterward, sending the Trojans into celebration with a 3-2 road victory.
