Jeremy Albertson – Class of 2018

Jeremy Albertson’s journey is one deeply connected to his high school years, where he first built the foundation for his achievements. A 2018 graduate of Pahrump Valley High School, Jeremy excelled both on and off the field. He was a standout multi-sport athlete, earning all-state honors in football, wrestling, and track and field during both his junior and senior years—a rare accomplishment that remains one of his proudest achievements.

Athletics were a defining part of Jeremy’s high school experience, and he looks back fondly on the camaraderie and competition. “Pretty much all athletics as a whole was the biggest part of my high school career,” he shared. Among his many accomplishments, winning the state championship in discus holds a special place in his memory. Jeremy credits his first coach, Reynaldo Veloz, for being a key influence in his throwing career. “He told us that if anyone broke his record at the high school, we’d get the disc he used to set it,” Jeremy recalled. “That was a big push for me throughout my throwing career—I wanted that disc.” Jeremy still holds the school record for discus at PVHS.

Jeremy’s connection to the high school community remains strong. He occasionally visits the wrestling room to check in and see how the program is doing, especially around Thanksgiving, when he joins the team for their annual morning practice. Although work commitments make it challenging for him to be as involved as he’d like, he values these opportunities to stay connected.

Beyond sports, Jeremy’s friendships from high school have endured. His roommate, Dylan Kaufman, is one of his closest friends, and he frequently spends time with Morgan White and Eric Lopez, who owns Rublacabas, a local restaurant near the high school. These lifelong connections highlight the deep bonds Jeremy formed during those formative years.

After high school, Jeremy ventured to Oregon, attending a junior college for a year and a half. He fell in love with the state’s natural beauty, often hiking along the Oregon Trail and exploring the sand dunes and lakes near his college. “The Oregon sand dunes butted up right next to my college, and they had lakes in the middle of them. It was beautiful out there,” he said. While life has brought him back to Pahrump, he dreams of returning to Oregon one day to recapture the peace and beauty he found there.

Currently, Jeremy works as a subcontractor in his father’s business, a role he initially wasn’t sure he wanted to pursue. After working at a gypsum mine in Red Rock, he realized the potential and opportunity within the family business. “It was a pretty good opportunity to walk away from at 21, so I decided I might as well just go back to work for him for a while and make some good money,” he explained.

Navigating a working relationship with family can be tricky, but Jeremy and his father have found a balance. “Don’t take things too personally, especially if you’re working with family,” Jeremy advised. “If you get into an argument at work, leave it at work.” Maintaining that separation has allowed them to preserve their father-son relationship outside of their professional roles. In their downtime, they enjoy trips to Lake Mojave, launching from Cottonwood Cove to fish, relax, and enjoy the water.

Jeremy has also pursued new interests, including jiu-jitsu, which has become a significant part of his life over the past three years. He trains at Mix It Up Academy, a local program run by Robert Wilson, and credits the sport with keeping him active and focused. “I love it. It’s like my new favorite thing,” he said.

Another passion Jeremy has recently embraced is bow hunting, a hobby he’s eager to master. While he has yet to claim his first deer, he remains optimistic. “I haven’t had much success yet, but hopefully the future will be a little better,” he said. Jeremy often ventures into northern Nevada alone for his hunting trips, enjoying the solitude and challenge of the experience.

As Jeremy reflects on his journey, he recognizes the importance of his roots in shaping who he is today. His high school experiences, the mentors who guided him, and the friends who have remained by his side have all played a role in his path. With a focus on growth and a deep appreciation for the connections he’s made, Jeremy’s story is one of ambition, gratitude, and a strong sense of community.
