    Community Care Corner

Hello. My name is Karen Taylor. I have lived in Pahrump 26 years. I am married with two wonderful children – our son experiencing adulthood on the East Coast and our daughter testing her adult wings as an online freshman at GCU. My husband has been a custodian in Nye County School District for over ten years and is currently at the high school.

I have many dreams for this community, all centered around bridging gaps in care, resources and continuity of care. All launched, on my own personal and immediate family care journeys. In 2009 I became very ill and parts of that 9-month health crisis remain a mystery and in 2013 I almost lost my mom due to an unsafe discharge from a standard surgical procedure. While there have been many tears and bouts of frustration on these journeys, my passion to advocate for others has been borne and fine-tuned
    each year since.

It was in a conversation with one of my senior clients a couple of years into operating August Services that I realized no school could have prepared me for the service that we’ve become known for the way my own journey prepared me. I know first hand what living with mobility issues and limitations is, I know firsthand the level of emotions that one can deal with when having a conversation regarding the benefit of sleeping in a hospital bed vs in the comfy queen bed next to my husband, I know first hand the fear of realizing that I could not remember my children’s birthdays or why Blagg Rd and Basin Ave sounded familiar, but why was I stopped on the shoulder at the intersection on the phone asking my husband where I was and where was I supposed to be going all those years ago. For me, so much health has been restored, but this is not always the case – but I clearly remember screaming out to God one night, “I never want another human being to ever feel this fear and this level of alone! I can’t touch everyone; I can’t help
everyone but with every fiber of energy that I’m granted I will continue to find others to join me touch and care for those that I can’t and create a type of caring community that reduce this risk of loneliness.”

Welcome! It is with great delight that this column is launched. I’d reached out to Amy Veloz for the potential of a feature article for August Services LLC and it’s Care Provisions in the Pahrump Community. As we spoke, we quickly realized there are multiple angles to that article and asked, “Would you consider hosting a column about care for our community.” YES! My Dream came true to find an avenue to inform, educate, support and socially care for many in one format, ABSOLUTELY!

I have collected many topics over the years to discuss and am sure there are many more that could be brought to my attention, this column is for our community, if you have any questions or suggestions for me to cover, please do not hesitate to email me at k.taylor@augustservicesllc.com; please use “Community Care Corner” in the subject line.
