Champion Haircuts – A Community Staple for Relaxed, Quality Haircuts

Since May 2016, Champion Haircuts, co-owned by Jack Champion and Donna Field, has become a beloved fixture in the community. Located conveniently and operating with customer-friendly hours, Champion Hair Cuts is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 6 AM to 5 PM, providing a welcoming environment for clients seeking quality haircuts.

Jack Champion, who has been cutting hair since 1984, took over the shop after retiring from his 30-year tenure with Regis Corporation. He shares, “I was tired of working for corporate and wanted to take it easy and work for myself.” Donna Field joined him in 2019, leaving her corporate job to help run the shop full-time. “I realized this was the best place to be,” she reflects.

What sets Champion Haircuts apart from other salons in the area is its unique focus on haircuts only, steering clear of chemical treatments like perms and colors. “We specifically didn’t want to do any chemicals. We wanted to specialize just in haircuts,” explains Jack. This approach caters to clients who prefer no-frills, efficient service. Donna adds, “It’s a super family environment, and everybody knows everybody. It’s very relaxing, and people enjoy that.” In addition to hair cuts, Jack does offer beard trims as well.

The atmosphere is designed to be casual and inviting. Clients can come in, have a drink, and enjoy a friendly, laid-back environment. “We want them to feel comfortable in the space,” says Donna. The shop’s commitment to simplicity and efficiency is evident in their appointment system. “Our shortest appointment is 30 minutes, and we educate clients to book more time if needed,” Jack notes.

Social media plays a significant role in keeping the team updated with the latest trends. Donna highlights, “We encourage clients to bring inspo photos, and we learn from our clients. Social media and the kids themselves help us stay ahead.”

One of the most rewarding aspects of running Champion Haircuts is the positive impact on their clients. Donna shares a touching story, “A little boy gave me the best thank you card ever. He thanked me for cutting his hair for so long and said he loved the way I cut his hair. It’s moments like these that make it all worthwhile.”

The salon emphasizes the importance of customer feedback and satisfaction. “We handle customer feedback on a case-by-case basis, and it’s all about being pleasant and accommodating,” says Jack. Despite the challenges, such as transitioning clients from walk-ins to appointments, the salon has successfully built a loyal clientele. “We met our capacity within the first couple of years, and now we mostly have repeat clients,” Jack explains.

Community involvement is also a priority for Jack and Donna. The salon has donated to Little League and other local initiatives, especially post-COVID. “We like to sponsor events that support kids and the community,” says Donna.

Balancing work and personal life is crucial for Jack and Donna. “We make sure to take days off and know when to cut it off,” Donna explains. “I don’t answer my phone on weekends and return calls when I get back to work.”

Looking ahead, Jack and Donna aim to maintain their current status. “We’re not looking to be rich; we just want to have a great business and be comfortable,” says Jack. Donna adds, “We enjoy what we’re doing, and overworking ourselves would take the fun out of it.”

The genuine connections with their clients are what Jack and Donna enjoy most about their work. “Just being ourselves and talking to people is what we love. Our clients are like friends and family,” says Donna. Jack agrees, “We have relationships with most of our clients, and it’s just fun to have conversations.”

In addition to Jack and Donna, Irais Romero also works at the salon. Appointments can be made online for each stylist. Jack Champion, Donna Field, Irais Romero.

Champion Haircuts has become a cherished part of the community, offering quality haircuts in a relaxed, friendly environment with a strong word-of-mouth referral. “Having someone recommend us is the best form of marketing we could ask for,” Donna said.

Champion Haircuts can be found at 361 S Frontage Rd #6 in Pahrump (across the HWY from Walmart).
