On Monday, May 26, 2025, close to 100 community members gathered at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Clyde E. Newman Jr. Post 10054 in Pahrump to remember, honor, and reflect on the lives lost in service to the United States. Summer break can be daunting. There’s internal pressure to soak up the family time and create memories, and external pressure to keep the kids happy and entertained. Pahrump Youth Sports is kicking off the season with a Football and Cheer Camp set for June 6 through June 8 at Simkins Park. Open to children ages 5 to 14, the camp is a great opportunity for young athletes to learn new skills, meet coaches, and get excited for the upcoming season. The Floyd Elementary Gardening Club capped off its after-school season with an exciting field trip to Green Life Produce on Wednesday, May 14. The visit brought approximately 20 students, along with their parents and club advisors Ms. Luna and Ms. Sandy, to the local farm for a behind-the-scenes look at sustainable agriculture in action. The group arrived at the farm around 4 p.m. and was warmly welcomed by owners Steve and Kouanin Cantwell and Brad Thurmond, who led the tour. The Pahrump Valley High School track and field team was sent out in style as they departed for the Nevada State Championships, with friends, family, and school staff lining up to cheer them on. The team received a special escort from SWAT, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, and Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue, who guided the bus to the edge of town, giving the athletes a memorable and motivational send-off before their competition at Moapa Valley High School. On Saturday, May 10, Sleep in Heavenly Peace hosted its spring Community Bed Build, bringing together 35 volunteers determined to make a difference in the lives of local children. With sawdust in the air and a spirit of service guiding every movement, the team crafted a total of 24 beds in just one day. These newly built beds are provided to children in need throughout the county, each one complete with a mattress, pillow, and bedding to ensure every recipient has a safe, comfortable place to sleep.
