The Rosemary Clarke Middle School girls volleyball A team battled back from a large deficit in the opening set and won the second before falling to Faith Lutheran in three sets at home Tuesday, Sept. 22. RCMS, coached by Amanda Smith and Amanda Cardinal, fell 25-22, won 25-19 and lost the deciding set 15-0.
Faith Lutheran led 15-7 in the first set before RCMS found its rhythm. Esmeralda Hull sparked the comeback from the service line, delivering a string of aces that pulled the team even at 16-16 and then put it ahead 18-16. Avery Henkel contributed a tip during the rally, while Tymber Gott added a spike that rolled over the net as RCMS extended its lead to 21-17.
Faith Lutheran rallied to take the set, but RCMS carried its strong serving into the second. Kyla Resnik served multiple aces during an opening run that gave the home team an 11-0 lead. Faith Lutheran worked its way back and tied the score at 15-15, setting up a close finish.
RCMS responded with two straight points to regain the lead. Mia Schuerger later put a spike over the net, and the team pulled ahead 20-16. RCMS kept its advantage through the closing points, taking the set 25-19 to force a deciding third set.
Faith Lutheran won the final set, but RCMS’s comeback in the opener and its response to a second-set rally gave the A team plenty of strong moments in front of its home crowd.
