The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ soccer teams had a mixed day of results on Monday, August 26, in their games against SLAM Academy. While the Junior Varsity (JV) team celebrated a strong victory, the Varsity team faced a tough challenge as they continue to rebuild after losing several key players from last season.

The JV team kicked off the day with an impressive 3-0 win over SLAM Academy, demonstrating strong teamwork and growing confidence on the field. Rosie Miller made a significant impact in the game, scoring all three goals for the team. As a whole, the team worked well together, finding their places on the field and executing their game plan effectively. The win was a testament to their hard work and growing cohesion as a unit.

In contrast, the Varsity team is in a period of transition and faced a challenging game, losing 0-8 to SLAM Academy. The team is struggling to find its confidence after a significant turnover of players last year. With many new faces, including players from JV stepping up to fill the gaps, the team is in the process of building the chemistry needed to succeed.

Coach Carlson’s comments highlighted the current phase of experimentation and adaptation. “We are trying different formations to see what works best for the girls as the newer players increase their skills and speed,” Carlson said. “It’s a new team, and with that comes some struggles. The girls are working to find out what positions each of them can fill for the team to be successful.”

The loss was a learning experience for the Varsity players, who are determined to bounce back. The coach noted that the game taught them “a hard lesson,” emphasizing the importance of putting in extra work and building each other up to develop the unity and strength needed to compete at a high level.

Despite the setback, the Varsity team remains focused on the future and is already shifting their attention to their next match against Mojave on Wednesday. The team knows that with continued effort and perseverance, they can improve and grow stronger together.
