Pahrump Valley High School seniors preparing for life after graduation have a new opportunity to earn financial support for their next chapter, as the Kinthiseng Family Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications for 2026.
Created with a strong commitment to the local community, the scholarship aims to support students who plan to continue their education—whether through a traditional college path or a technical or trade program. More than just academic achievement, the fund places a meaningful emphasis on the whole student, recognizing that success comes in many forms.
Unlike many scholarships, there is no minimum GPA requirement. Instead, the selection committee looks at a student’s overall merit, including extracurricular involvement, work experience, and personal responsibilities outside of school. Whether a student balances athletics, clubs, a part-time job, or family commitments, those efforts are all considered valuable parts of their story.
Applicants are also asked to complete a short essay, offering insight into who they are and what drives them, as well as submit a recommendation from a non-related adult. Both the application and recommendation must be completed by May 1, 2026.
The scholarship is led by a three-member selection committee made up of Megan Kinthiseng, Lisa Hamrick and James Kinthiseng—family members who share deep roots in the Pahrump community. Megan and her mother Lisa were both born and raised locally, and after spending time away, Megan returned with a desire to give back in a meaningful way. Together with her husband James, the family hopes to invest in the next generation and support students as they pursue their goals, wherever those paths may lead.
“An investment in our students’ futures reflects positively on Pahrump,” Megan shared. “Whether they return to contribute to our community or represent it elsewhere, we are proud to support them.”
In its first year, the fund set out to award a single scholarship—but the strength of the applicants made that decision difficult. Instead, three students were selected, each receiving $1,000. Organizers anticipate a similar outcome this year, with plans to award at least one scholarship and the possibility of recognizing multiple outstanding students once again.
