The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ JV basketball team delivered a confident, well-rounded performance at home on Tuesday, January 20, earning a 61–51 win over the Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas Falcons with steady pressure, crisp ball movement, and timely shooting.

Pahrump Valley set the tone early, sharing the scoring load in the opening quarter. Kamden Moore, Chasen Hamann, Anthony Montanez, and Daniel Thompson all found the basket as the Trojans built a 12–6 advantage by the end of the first. The balanced attack kept Coral from settling defensively and allowed Pahrump Valley to control the pace from the start.

The second quarter showcased the Trojans’ rhythm on offense. Montanez opened with a strong finish inside, followed by back-to-back three-pointers from Thompson to stretch the lead to 23–6. Moore answered Coral’s response with a three of his own, and a quick steal turned into another Thompson bucket in transition. Tanner Gott added a smooth spin move and finish in the paint, while Josh Gent chipped in with a layup. Montanez continued to attack downhill, converting two more drives to the basket. Moore capped the half with a deep three after extra passes and an offensive rebound, helping Pahrump Valley head into halftime up 36–19.

Coral showed fight coming out of the break, trimming the margin with perimeter shooting and trips to the free-throw line. The Trojans stayed composed. After Gent’s shot was rebounded and put back by Moore, Moore drilled another three to reassert control. Bradley Griffin made an impact on both ends, and despite Coral cutting into the lead late in the quarter, Griffin came up with a key steal in the final seconds, racing coast-to-coast for a layup and drawing a foul. The three-point play pushed the Trojans ahead 47–34 heading into the fourth.

Pahrump Valley closed the game with energy and execution. Montanez opened the final quarter with a steal and finish, Moore followed with a jumper and another strong take inside, and Griffin added a bucket to keep the momentum firmly on the Trojans’ side. Gott knocked down a three, Gent added a free throw, and Moore continued to finish through contact as Coral attempted one last push. Solid rebounding and ball control down the stretch allowed Pahrump Valley to protect the lead and seal the 61–51 victory.

Head JV Coach Royce Avena praised his team’s approach after the game. “Boys played aggressive from the tip off. We controlled the ball really well and minimized our turnovers. We rebounded the ball extremely well and we shot lights out from behind the arch,” he said.

The home win highlighted Pahrump Valley’s depth, unselfish play, and confidence on the offensive end, as the JV Trojans continue to build momentum through the heart of their season.
