The Nevada Department of Education has recognized Mt. Charleston Elementary School preschool teacher Alison Matulich as one of the 2025 Nevada Early Educators of the Year, honoring her commitment to young learners and families in Pahrump.

Presented annually, the award celebrates educators who work with children from birth through age five and demonstrate exceptional dedication, compassion, and teaching excellence. Matulich’s recognition highlights not only her classroom leadership but also her ongoing service to the Nye County community.

Dr. Joe Gent, Superintendent of the Nye County School District, praised the achievement, saying, “We are incredibly proud of Alison Matulich for this well-deserved recognition. Her passion for early childhood education and her commitment to her students and families are an inspiration. This award is a testament to the high-quality educators we have in the Nye County School District.”

Matulich began her career as a teacher’s assistant before pursuing advanced studies, ultimately earning a master’s degree in early childhood education. She describes her work as deeply rewarding. “I love being an early childhood educator because I get to sing songs, read amazing books, explore math, pour paint, dance, and laugh every day with students who are brimming over with joy,” she shared. “I also find tremendous value in having a role that serves and supports families and children in my community.”

Her nominator referred to her as a “shining light” who not only cultivates a positive atmosphere in her classroom but also ensures colleagues remain informed on best practices and district guidance.

As part of the honor, Matulich received a $500 award, a framed certificate, and a Lakeshore Learning gift certificate.

The Nye County School District extended its congratulations, noting that Matulich’s dedication is not only an asset to her students but to the entire state of Nevada.

Alison Matulich joins Sparks educator Katelyn Donaker in receiving this year’s statewide recognition.
