The Pahrump Valley High School junior varsity softball team delivered an exciting, back-and-forth performance on their home field Tuesday, March 24, battling to an 11-10 walk-off victory over Green Valley in a game filled with momentum swings and clutch moments.

Green Valley struck first in the top of the opening inning, capitalizing on a combination of walks, timely hits and hit batters to push across two runs. Despite the early pressure, the Trojans responded quickly.

In the bottom of the first, Isabella McHugh got things started with a single to right before aggressively working her way around the bases. Tierra Demers reached after being hit by a pitch and also advanced into scoring position. Arielle Perry reached on a hit and an error, setting the stage for Olivia Veloz, who delivered a big hit to center field that cleared the bases for three runs. The Trojans added another run behind Avi Michel’s hit, taking a 4-2 lead after one inning.

The visitors regained control in the second inning, stringing together hits, walks and aggressive baserunning to score five runs. After a pitching change that brought Veloz into the circle, the Trojans were able to stop the rally with a strikeout and a ground out, but trailed heading into the bottom half.

Pahrump was held scoreless in the second, but the team showed resilience in the third. After Green Valley added two more runs to extend their lead, the Trojans answered. Perry singled to spark the inning, and Veloz reached on an error. A sacrifice fly from Quinn Kaucky brought in a run, while Claudia Lopez delivered a double to left to score another. Raegan Saldaña followed with a well-placed hit to add one more, cutting the deficit to 9-7.

The Trojans continued to chip away in the fourth. Demers reached base with a single and later scored on Veloz’s hit to left, narrowing the score to 9-8. After Green Valley added a run in the fifth to go up 10-8, Pahrump answered once again in dramatic fashion.

Kaucky led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, and Lopez executed a sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position. April Ivy came through with a clutch single to score Kaucky, and McHugh followed with a base hit. Demers reached on an error that allowed Ivy to score, tying the game at 10-10 and setting the stage for a tense finish.

Both teams tightened defensively in the sixth, with the Trojans holding Green Valley scoreless and going quietly at the plate to send the game into the final inning still tied.

In the top of the seventh, Pahrump’s defense rose to the occasion, stranding a runner at third and keeping the game even.

That set up a thrilling finish in the bottom half.

Lopez opened the inning with a hit, and after a sequence of plays put Raegan Saldaña on base, she used her speed to steal second and move into scoring position. With two outs, McHugh stepped to the plate and delivered, driving a single to right field that brought Saldaña home for the game-winning run.

The Trojans’ 11-10 victory showcased their persistence, timely hitting and ability to respond under pressure, as they battled back multiple times before sealing the win in walk-off fashion.
