The Pahrump Valley High School junior varsity boys volleyball team showed persistence and flashes of strong play in a home matchup against the Moapa Valley Pirates on Friday, April 17, battling through two competitive sets.

In the opening set, the Trojans stayed within reach throughout, responding to early momentum swings with hustle and smart plays. A long rally early on was capped by a diving save from Blake Edie-Dixon, helping keep the point alive before Moapa sent the ball out to even the score at 2-2. From there, Pahrump Valley found rhythm, capitalizing on Pirate errors—including multiple hits into the net—to build a 7-4 advantage.

Moapa answered with a run of their own, but the Trojans continued to respond. Tristan Thibault delivered a key ace to pull the team within one at 11-12, and moments later, Pahrump Valley evened things up at 12-12 after forcing an out-of-bounds return. The back-and-forth battle continued deep into the set, highlighted by a well-placed tip to the open floor to make it 14-15 and a clutch ace from Kayden Doubleday that tied things again at 15-15.

Late in the set, Joshua Clark added a quick-thinking tip to the back corner, and another ace helped the Trojans close the gap to 21-22. Despite the late surge, Moapa Valley was able to edge out the set 25-22.

The second set opened with more positive moments for the Trojans. Doubleday sparked an early run with an ace, helping Pahrump Valley jump out to a 5-2 lead. George Anderson followed with a well-placed tip, and Blake Edie-Dixon continued to contribute at the net as the Trojans held their ground.

After the score tightened at 11-11, Moapa Valley managed to create separation, but Pahrump Valley continued to compete point-for-point. The Trojans capitalized on Pirate mistakes, including serves into the net, and showed effort on defense with multiple diving attempts to extend rallies.

Late in the set, Doubleday again found the open floor with a smart tip, while Edie-Dixon added an ace as part of a late push. The Trojans continued to battle until the final point, ultimately falling 25-17.

While the match ended in a loss, the Trojans displayed strong communication, hustle, and the ability to respond under pressure. With contributions across the lineup and continued development, the JV squad showed encouraging signs as they continue to build throughout the season.
