The PVHS Girls’ Volleyball team had a week full of intense competition, showcasing their skills on the court. It all started on Thursday, September 26, 2024, when the Trojans faced off against Somerset Academy Losee. In a grueling five-set match, Pahrump emerged victorious with scores of 25-15, 21-25, 24-26, 25-23, and a thrilling 17-15 final set. Key players in this victory were Heavenly Ware and Xeane Kamanu, both leading with 10 kills. Sedona Norton contributed 4 ace serves, while Ware demonstrated her defensive prowess with 6 blocks. Bryn Mazlo’s outstanding 65 digs out of the team’s 205 total highlighted the Trojans’ relentless defense.
After their win, the Trojans headed into a weekend tournament where they finished 1st in the Silver Bracket. Although they lost to Green Valley and Layton Christian Academy on Friday, September 27, these defeats only strengthened their resolve. On Saturday, September 28, Pahrump bounced back, winning all three games against Del Sol and South Tahoe (twice), sweeping the series 2-0. The final match against South Tahoe was especially impressive, with Marayah Waller contributing 7 kills, the team delivering 7 aces, and Ware dominating at the net with 13 blocks, including 8 solo. Mazlo once again stood out defensively with 13 digs.
Coach Veronica Montanez expressed pride in the team’s performance, remarking, “They showed heart and tenacity throughout the tournament. I was proud of them.”
However, on Tuesday, October 1, the Trojans faced a challenging match against Sports Leadership & Management (SLAM). Despite a valiant effort, Pahrump fell 3-1 with set scores of 17-25, 15-25, 25-11, and 19-25. Heavenly Ware and Xeane Kamanu continued to lead the offense with 8 kills each. Charity Broderick added 3 aces, and Belen Ramirez contributed 5 digs.
The Trojans will take a break from games until October 8, when they face Virgin Valley in what promises to be another exciting battle. That matchup will be held at PVHS with games starting at 4 p.m.
