Proper disposal of unused prescription medications and its role in protecting groundwater will be the focus of the Private Well Owners Association’s next monthly meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Pahrump Valley Museum, 401 E. Basin Ave.
Amy Fortin, a prevention specialist with Nye Communities Coalition, will explain how disposing of old medications properly can help keep unwanted drugs and contaminants from reaching the local water supply.
As part of her presentation, Fortin will demonstrate a Deterra drug disposal pouch. Disposal bags will also be available for association members and guests, giving attendees an opportunity to take home a resource for managing unused medications.
Fortin will also discuss Narcan, which is used to treat opioid overdoses, and answer questions following her presentation.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Membership forms will be available for those interested in joining the association.
The Private Well Owners Association is an educational nonprofit that helps residents learn about managing private wells, conserving water in Basin 162 and sustaining the area’s rural lifestyle. Its monthly meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month and are open to members and guests.
