The Jr. Trojans 14U championship game between Pink & Black and Blue Thunder delivered an intense, hard-fought battle from start to finish, with Pink & Black ultimately holding on for a 2-1 victory to cap off an undefeated season.

Pink & Black, coached by Amanda Cardinal and Matt Smith, entered the playoff championship unbeaten, while Blue Thunder, coached by Joel Dean with Angie Musumeci and Martin Apolinar, battled their way into the title game and pushed the defending squad until the final whistle.

The opening half featured strong defensive play and several key saves from both goalkeepers. Early in the match, Jakob Riggs came up with a series of important stops for Pink & Black, including intercepting a dangerous opportunity near the corner of the goal after Jakhai Smith worked the ball forward for Blue Thunder. Riggs also handled several shots on goal to keep the match scoreless during the opening minutes.

Blue Thunder goalkeeper Ezra Mason answered with strong play of his own, coming well off his line to collect a rolling ball before later catching a long penalty attempt from midfield by Oliver Westall. Both teams continued pushing the pace, with Ozias Ofseur moving the ball up the right side and sending a centering pass into the box before Blue Thunder cleared it out of danger.

Pink & Black continued generating chances midway through the half. Westall carried the ball from midfield toward the left side before firing a shot that struck the side netting, while Tyler Murphy later sent a shot just wide right. Defensively, Tyler Leavitt repeatedly helped slow Blue Thunder attacks, clearing the ball out of bounds on consecutive possessions to prevent scoring opportunities.

One of the best scoring chances of the half came when the ball crossed in front of the goal and Murphy attempted a shot out of the air, but the opportunity slipped away as the ball continued across the face of the net.

The breakthrough finally came late in the first half after contact in the box resulted in a penalty kick. Pink & Black capitalized, placing a low shot into the right corner to take a 1-0 lead just seconds before halftime.

Blue Thunder came out aggressively in the second half looking for the equalizer. Ellie Apolinar connected with Smith on an early opportunity, but the quick shot missed the target. Blue Thunder also earned multiple corner kicks throughout the half, keeping steady pressure on Pink & Black’s defense, though the back line and goalkeeper continued to hold firm.

Riggs remained a key factor defensively for Pink & Black, making a diving save with 19 minutes remaining to preserve the lead. Blue Thunder nearly found the tying goal moments later after Apolinar delivered a corner kick that Ashton Dean controlled for a shot from the top of the box, but the attempt was caught by the keeper.

Pink & Black extended the lead with nine minutes remaining when Kayden Leseberg scored on a free kick from midfield. The ball was initially deflected by Mason before finding the back of the net, giving Pink & Black a 2-0 advantage.

Blue Thunder refused to back down. Just under two minutes later, Smith cut the deficit to 2-1 after fighting through heavy traffic in front of the goal and finding an opening through a crowd of players.

The final minutes featured nonstop pressure from Blue Thunder. Apolinar continued creating chances on corner kicks, while Riggs and the Pink &Black defense repeatedly cleared the ball out of danger. Westall helped turn away one late opportunity with a defensive deflection and clear as Blue Thunder searched for the equalizer.

In the closing moments, Pink & Black focused on controlling possession and keeping the ball on the offensive side of the field until the final whistle sounded, securing the 2-1 championship victory.

Both teams showcased strong effort, teamwork and resilience throughout the match, capping off the Jr. Trojans 14U season with a competitive championship battle.
