Nye County will begin accepting applications Thursday, Oct. 1, for its 2026 Veterans Banner Program, which honors current and former members of the United States Armed Forces with commemorative banners.
The program recognizes veterans, military retirees and active-duty service members for their commitment and service to the country. The banners are funded through the county’s Veterans Service Fund.
Former Nye County Commissioner Butch Borasky, who retired from the commission in December 2017 after 12 years of service, was a leading advocate for establishing the program.
“I am excited for my first year doing the Veterans Banner Program for Nye County,” program manager Ashley Koning said while encouraging community members and local veterans organizations to help spread the word about the opportunity.
To qualify, an honoree must be a current or former member of the United States Armed Forces and a current, former or deceased resident of Nye County. Former service members must have received an honorable discharge.
Applications may be submitted by the honoree or the honoree’s closest living relative. Nye County reserves the right to determine which nominees are accepted into the program.
Beginning Oct. 1, applications may be picked up at the Nye County Administration Office at 2100 E. Walt Williams Drive, Suite 100, in Pahrump or at 101 Radar Road in Tonopah. Applications will also be available to print from the Veterans Banner Program page on the official Nye County website at nyecountynv.gov.
Completed applications, supporting documentation and a photograph must be delivered to one of the county administration offices or emailed to nyeadmin@nyecountynv.gov by noon Thursday, Dec. 3.
